The Monday Scoop for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco. ❄️
If you’re reading this from under three blankets with a mug of hot cocoa, same. Between icy roads, snow covered driveways, and cars that haven’t started since Friday, it’s officially that time of year where Texas collectively asks: “Why do we live somewhere where air hurts our face?”
Most of us are snowed in, and honestly, that’s probably for the best. The weekend brought dangerous road conditions, some heartbreaking news, and more winter chaos than anyone asked for. So today’s newsletter comes with a simple message: stay indoors, stay safe, and hug your loved ones.
Here’s your Frisco update while we all wait for the thaw.

💔 16-Year-Old Girl Killed in Frisco Sledding Accident
Frisco Police have confirmed that a 16 year old girl was killed and another critically injured after a sledding accident Saturday afternoon near Majestic Gardens Drive and Killian Court.
According to investigators:
The girls were being pulled on a sled by a Jeep Wrangler driven by a 16 year old boy.
Around 2:26 p.m., the sled reportedly struck a curb and hit a tree.
Paramedics performed life saving measures at the scene before transporting both victims to local hospitals.
One girl tragically died from her injuries, and the other remains in critical condition.
Frisco Police and the Denton County District Attorney’s Office are continuing to investigate.
Let’s remember how quickly these moments can turn tragic. Roads are slick, snow hides curbs and ice, and even “harmless” fun can take a heartbreaking turn. Keep your kids safe. Hug them tight tonight.
A better option for your kids

What if school looked like this? Your child is planning a room on a $500 budget at IKEA. Learning budgeting, economics, and geography along the way. Researching, sketching, and presenting to their peers. This is school.
Not worksheets. Not teaching to the test. Real-world learning that sticks.
At The Grove at Hearth, your child won't just memorize. They'll apply. Our students have toured a judge's courtroom, visited college campuses, and are exploring their own family stories through projects on heritage, geography, and history. Learning connects to who they are.
We're a micro school in Frisco serving 1st-6th graders in small groups of 6-10. Your child masters math, reading, writing, and language arts before advancing to the next level. No gaps, no guessing.
In a classroom of 25, your child might blend in. Here, they present. They lead. They're seen.
We want families who are excited about this kind of education. True partners who bring insight about their child, while we bring expertise in how children learn.
Now enrolling for 2026-2027, with limited Spring 2026 spots.
Let's see if we're the right fit. Connect with us by February 15th, and your $100 application fee is waived.

🏫 Frisco ISD Closed Monday & Tuesday Due to Ice and Snow
If you were hoping for a snow day….congrats, you got two!
Frisco ISD has announced that schools will remain closed through Tuesday, Jan. 27, for both students and staff. The district says road conditions remain too dangerous for buses and morning commutes.
No classes or activities either day
FISD will not use make up days, as it still meets state instructional time requirements
Wind chills are expected to remain between 5–15°F through Tuesday morning
Winter Storm Fern continues to sweep across North Texas, so bundle up, keep the faucets dripping, and enjoy the impromptu long weekend (just not on the roads).
🏘️ 100 Acres in Frisco’s Growth Corridor Sold for New Residential Community
Even while frozen solid, Frisco’s growth doesn’t stop. Nearly 100 acres of land at PGA Parkway and Hillcrest Road have been sold to Sobha Realty, a global luxury developer.
The land, formerly owned by the Ratcliffe family, will become a high end residential community
It sits near the PGA Headquarters and the upcoming Universal Kids Resort
The surrounding Fields West development will include luxury apartments, retail, dining, and offices
Translation: Frisco’s skyline, and traffic, are both about to grow again. But this deal signals continued confidence that Frisco remains the place to build and invest in North Texas.
🏛️ Frisco Mayor Questioned Over Indian Donors at City Council Meeting
A tense city council meeting last week took a controversial turn when a resident publicly questioned Mayor Jeff Cheney over campaign donations from Indian origin donors, some of whom reportedly live outside Frisco.
During the meeting, the resident cited donation records and alleged connections to local real estate businesses. The mayor did not respond directly to the questions during the session.
The comments come amid broader online discussions about Frisco’s demographic shifts and diversity. Frisco’s Indian community now makes up roughly one-third of the population, reflecting the city’s rapid cultural and economic evolution.
