Frisco Insider - Trader Joes + Chili + More

The Monday Scoop for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco.

Quick question: has anyone else been seeing dramatic lightning in the sky the past three nights…with basically zero rain? Or is that just me standing at the window like I’m in a country music video waiting for a storm that never shows up?

It’s been giving “apocalyptic vibes” without the actual weather commitment. Very Texas of us.

Anyway, we’ve got big development news, Main Street redemption arcs, a groundbreaking (literally), and one chili event you’re absolutely not allowed to miss.

Let’s jump in.

🛒 Trader Joe’s anchored Development Under Review

Frisco’s first Trader Joe’s might be inching closer…or hitting a speed bump.

The Planning & Zoning Commission will consider a zoning change April 28 for a proposed 10-acre mixed-use development at:

📍 Southwest corner of Majestic Gardens Drive & Main Street

The plan includes:

  • A Trader Joe’s at the corner

  • Senior living facility on the south portion

  • Mixed buse layout across the site

But here’s the twist: city staff are recommending denial.

Concerns include:

  • Limited walkability and pedestrian connectivity

  • Landscaping and screening issues

  • Parking ratio concerns

  • Not fully aligned with Frisco’s comprehensive plan

Some residents support bringing Trader Joe’s and senior housing to the area. Others are worried about traffic and congestion.

The meeting is tomorrow April 28 at 7:30 PM at City Hall and will be livestreamed.

So yes….Trader Joe’s is real. But it’s not a done deal yet.

A Much Better Option For Your Kids

Your child is not behind. They have just been in a room that was not moving fast enough.

In a classroom of 25, the pace is set for everyone. The strong readers wait. The deep thinkers blend in. You leave the parent-teacher conference with “doing fine” and no answer to what they actually learned this month.

At The Grove at Hearth, you will know. Every family receives a monthly progress report that names exactly what their child has learned and what comes next. Not “Proficient.” Reading: 89 words per minute, 96% accuracy, long vowel patterns mastered. The same specificity for math, writing, and reasoning.

We’re a microschool in Frisco serving 1st to 6th graders, with six to ten students per grove.

Now admitting for the 2026–2027 school year.

Frisco Insider families who request the information packet will also receive a complimentary starting roadmap for their child. Where they will begin at The Grove, and what their first weeks will focus on.

🏙 Main Street Businesses Bounce Back After Construction

Main Street merchants are finally breathing again.

After months of construction disrupting traffic, sidewalks, and sanity, portions of the $70 million Main Street project are complete, and businesses are already seeing improvement.

Dad Jokes Cheeseburger owner Clayton Jones said lunch traffic has increased 50–60% since construction wrapped.

Other highlights:

  • La Finca Coffee and Bakery survived by tightening expenses.

  • Businesses launched the #SaveMain campaign to rally community support.

  • The project focused on wider sidewalks and a more walkable downtown feel.

Translation: The orange cones are fading, and foot traffic is back.

If you haven’t visited Main Street lately, now’s your sign.

🏢 The Cheney Group Relocates Within The Star

So yes, thunderstorms are “scheduled.” Whether they actually commit is another story. I’ve been seeing lightning for three days and barely a drizzle. Mother Nature is just teasing us at this point.
