Frisco Insider - Tower Collapse + Doughnuts + More

The Monday Scoop for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco.

It is officially June.

We are halfway through 2026.
Half. Way.

If you had New Year’s resolutions…
This is your gentle reminder that “summer body” has quietly become “fall maybe?”

The kids are out of school. The sun is aggressive. The car seats are hot. And yes, politics are heating up too.

Let’s get into it.

🗳️ Early Voting Begins TODAY for Frisco’s Mayoral Runoff

Early voting officially kicks off June 1 for Frisco’s mayoral runoff.

Candidates:

  • Rod Vilhauer

  • Mark Hill

Neither secured a majority in May’s four-candidate race, so now it’s a head to head runoff.

Important notes:

  • Mayor Jeff Cheney has termed out.

  • This will be Frisco’s first new mayor since 2017.

  • Early voting runs June 1–9.

  • Election Day is June 13.

  • Collin County residents can vote at ANY polling location during early voting and Election Day.

  • Denton County residents can vote at any polling location during early voting, but must vote at their assigned location on Election Day.

And just to say it clearly:

I have no sides and no bias.
Ireport. You decide.
Then we all still stand in line together at H-E-B like civilized people.

Go vote. Democracy looks good on you.

🎺 Three Students Injured in Centennial Band Tower Collapse

Three students were hospitalized after a 30 foot band tower collapsed at Centennial High School Thursday evening.

According to district officials:

  • Students were climbing on the structure.

  • Several were injured.

  • Maintenance crews secured the area immediately.

  • The tower will be dismantled.

  • Community members are asked not to approach the site.

This could’ve been far worse, and thankfully there were no fatalities reported.

Reminder:
Band kids are fearless.
But physics is undefeated.

Wishing those students a smooth recovery.

🍩 Dallas’ Top Doughnut Shop Expanding to Frisco

File this under “Yes, we absolutely needed this.”

La Rue Doughnuts, one of Dallas’ top rated spots, is opening a second location in Frisco.

Translation:
Your “I’m just grabbing coffee” trips are about to get dangerous.

Between:

  • Universal Kids opening

  • Firefly Park rising

  • Doughnuts multiplying

Frisco’s growth strategy is apparently:
“More calories and more traffic.”

And honestly?
Respect.

🚧 Roadwork Roundup

Because nothing says “Welcome to June” like orange cones.

Unless noted otherwise, expect about two weeks for completion (weather permitting… which in Texas means “maybe”).

  • Preston Trace Road & Utility Improvements

New Pavement Replacement:

  • 3116 Barkwood Ln.

  • 9764 Grasslands Dr.

Ongoing Pavement Replacement:

  • Aspen Ln. at Pepperbark Dr.

  • Morgan Hill Rd. & Old Barn Dr. (Pearson Farms Subdivision)

Pro tip:
Add 5–7 minutes to wherever you’re going.
Blame roadwork confidently.
No one will question it.
