The Friday Recap for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco, Happy Friday!

You made it.

Another week of “why is traffic like this,” and at least one moment where you forgot what day it was.

But it’s Friday. The sun’s out. The weekend is loaded. And we’ve got everything from City Council drama to World Cup golf hype (yes, that’s a thing now).

Let’s get into it.

🏛️ Frisco Council Hits Pause on Public Comment Changes

The Frisco City Council has decided to hold off on changes to public comment rules until after the May 2 election.

Here’s the situation:

  • Proposed change would reduce speaking time from 5 minutes to 3 minutes

  • Council deferred the decision until after voters elect a new mayor and at least one new council member

  • Council members said the issue had become “politicized” ahead of the election

This discussion gained attention after a February meeting made national headlines when speakers raised claims about alleged H-1B visa fraud and an “Indian takeover,” which was not on the meeting agenda .

What did pass this week?

New rules of decorum:

  • No placards, signs, or props

  • No physically approaching council members

  • Violators can be removed after warnings

The mayor noted it felt appropriate for the next mayor to weigh in on the final decision.

Translation: This conversation isn’t over, it’s just on intermission until after election day.

🚨 Major Crash Shuts Down Dallas North Tollway

Yesterday morning’s commute? Absolute chaos.

A concrete pump truck hit the center wall of the Dallas North Tollway near Panther Creek around 6:54 a.m.

Impact:

  • All northbound lanes closed

  • Only one southbound lane open

  • Traffic diverted to Panther Creek

  • Driver taken to hospital with serious injuries

If you were stuck in that mess, now you know why.

Let’s all collectively agree that DNT before coffee should be illegal.

⛳ Ticket Registration Opens for 2027 PGA Championship

Golf fans, this is big.

Ticket registration is now open for the 2027 PGA Championship, coming to PGA Frisco May 17–23, 2027.

Important details:

  • Registration open through May 18, 2026

  • Sales begin May 20, 2026

  • Expected attendance: 200,000+ spectators

  • Global broadcast to 170+ countries

  • Projected $100M+ economic impact

Fun fact: This will be the first men’s major championship in DFW since 1963.

Also included with tickets:
Championship+ perks, complimentary food and non alcoholic beverages.

Frisco really said, “Let’s casually host a global sporting event.”

🌳 Frisco Approves $43M for First Phase of Grand Park

Grand Park is officially moving forward.

City Council approved a $43.39 million contract for the first phase, Civic Park.

Here’s what Civic Park will include:

  • 68 acres

  • Amphitheater

  • Large pond (kayaking potential hopefully)

  • Walking trails

Groundbreaking is scheduled for April 13 (weather permitting).

Zooming out:

Grand Park will eventually span 1,011 acres along the DNT.

After delays tied to environmental cleanup at the former Exide site, construction is finally gaining momentum.

Frisco clearly doesn’t only build parks.
Frisco builds destinations.

And I’m totally fine with it as long as a good portion of Preston’s speed limit stays at 55.
