The Wednesday Loop for Frisco
Howdy, Frisco!
Happy Wednesday, y’all! We’ve officially hit that point in September where mornings trick you into thinking it’s fall, but afternoons are still screaming summer. Kids are halfway through their school week, coffee shops are rolling out pumpkin spice like it’s oxygen, and the rest of us are just trying to keep plants alive after this yo yo weather.
I’ve got your midweek fix: Texas news that actually matters, the hottest events around town, and a riddle to keep your brain sharp.
Texas News Roundup 📰
Abbott Expected to Issue Executive Order on THC
Governor Greg Abbott is preparing an executive order that would set age requirements and add new restrictions for THC products. Since lawmakers couldn’t agree in the last special session, Abbott’s plan could look a lot like liquor store rules:
21+ age minimum to buy or even enter some businesses
Mandatory ID checks
Distance rules from schools
Labeling + testing requirements
Fee hikes for businesses
Translation: THC is about to get regulated like a bottle of Jack Daniels. Some folks see it as safety, others see it as government picking winners (hello, liquor stores). Timeline’s fuzzy, but “something may be happening soon.”

Heroic Rescue in Lubbock 🚔
Two Lubbock County deputies were helping a stranded driver when a semi-truck slammed into their patrol car. Both deputies were pinned, one dangling over an overpass.
That’s when bystanders rushed in with ladders and rope to pull them to safety. Thanks to their quick action, both deputies (and even a civilian who was hurt) are expected to be okay.
It’s one of those moments that reminds you: Texans really do run toward danger to help their neighbors. Hats off to those heroes.
State Fair of Texas Cuts Free High School Tickets
For decades, Texas students looked forward to those free State Fair tickets, but starting this year, only Pre-K through 8th graders get in free. High schoolers? You’re downgraded to a discount code.
Here’s why:
🎟️ Over 2 million free tickets printed yearly, but only 10% used
💰 Rising security costs (over $8M this year for DPD coverage)
👮 Safety concerns, Fair has seen an uptick in incidents with high school students
High school students can snag $12 weekday tickets with code 2025EDU (limit 2). Everyone else: pack patience, clear bags, and your fried Oreo budget.
