The Friday Recap for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco! Happy Friday.
You made it.
Another week of school drop offs, group texts you forgot to reply to, and that one traffic light that absolutely knows when you’re running late.
We’re heading into a crisp February weekend and things around town are heating up. We’ve got World Cup prep updates, a razor thin election recount, more coffee coming your way, and a weekend lineup that ranges from elite gymnastics to wiffle ball championships.
Let’s get into it.

⚽ Frisco Preparing for 100,000–150,000 Daily Visitors During World Cup
Yes, you read that right.
City officials say Frisco could see 100,000 to 150,000 visitors per day during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Per day.
That’s….basically our entire population.
Here’s where things stand:
Police, fire, EMS, and engineering teams have scalable safety plans
The city ranks third nationwide in FIFA hotel room concentration.
A microtransit system is expected to be operational by June to help manage surge traffic.
World Cup Celebration Plans
Frisco is planning a multi-week fan experience, showing 97 of 104 matches (excluding seven late-night games to respect residents).
Residents will get early access to reserved seats at Toyota Stadium events.
A tree planting event is scheduled for May 2.
If you think traffic is fun now… buckle up. But economically? This is massive.
For your back pain, knee pain, or other pain…

If your knees have been acting weird lately…like sore getting out of the car, stiff on stairs, or just not moving how they used to…you’re not alone.
That stuff usually doesn’t start in the knee. It often comes from your back, hips, or how your body moves as a whole.
That’s what the team at Core Strength Wellness looks at. They’re a local chiropractor here in Frisco, and their whole thing is helping people move better and hurt less. Knees, backs, hips, necks… even those random aches you’ve just learned to live with.
They start with a no-cost consultation. No pressure. No rush. Just a real look at what’s going on and whether they can help.
If you’ve been saying “I should probably get this checked out” for a while… this is your sign.
You can book the no cost consult with Core Strength Wellness and at least get some answers.
🚨 Frisco 3rd-Grade Teacher Arrested, Charged with Invasive Visual Recording
A Frisco elementary school teacher has been arrested and charged with a state jail felony.
Michael Cheek, 48, a third grade teacher at Phillips Elementary, was taken into custody and charged with invasive visual recording, according to Frisco police.
Here’s what we know:
Cheek has been placed on administrative leave.
He is barred from all Frisco ISD property.
District officials confirmed he has not been on campus since the allegations surfaced.
A new teacher has been placed in the classroom.
The charge is a state jail felony, which carries a potential penalty of 180 days to two years in jail
Frisco ISD says it is cooperating fully with law enforcement and is providing support to Phillips Elementary students and staff.
The investigation is ongoing.
🗳️ Frisco Place 1 Race Headed to Hand Recount
Frisco’s City Council Place 1 race is officially going to a hand recount, delaying what was expected to be Ann Anderson’s swearing-in.
Here’s what happened:
Anderson and former Fire Chief Mark Piland are separated by 110 votes.
Total ballots cast: 8,016.
Because Frisco spans both Collin and Denton counties, both must conduct separate hand recounts.
State audits already conducted showed no discrepancy changes.
Texas election law allows a recount request anytime electronic equipment is involved, regardless of margin.
For now, swearing-in plans are postponed while counties complete the manual review.
Close elections are rare at this level. 110 votes is essentially a neighborhood block.
☕ Black Rock Coffee Opening Second Frisco Location
Frisco caffeine lovers, rejoice.
Black Rock Coffee is opening a second Frisco location at:

Between this and the other drive-thru spots popping up, Frisco might be the most over caffeinated city in Texas.
