The Friday Recap for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco! Happy Friday, (Yes… Friday the 13th)

It’s Friday the 13th, it’s about to drop from 80° to 50° in 48 hours, and St. Patrick’s Day is basically a four day celebration now.

Only in Texas can you wear shorts on Saturday and need a winter coat by Monday.

We’ve got major school news, some heavy community conversations, a big park update, and honestly? A stacked weekend lineup.

Let’s get into it.

🎓 Frisco ISD Names Todd Fouche as Lone Finalist for Superintendent

After a unanimous vote Thursday night, Frisco ISD trustees named Todd Fouche as the lone finalist to become the district’s next superintendent.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Current role: Deputy Superintendent

  • 20+ years in Frisco ISD

  • Started as a teacher in the district

  • Will oversee 77 schools and 62,000+ students

  • Holds a Doctor of Education from UNT

He’ll take over from Dr. Mike Waldrip, who is retiring after nine years leading the district.

And the timing isn’t simple.

Fouche steps into leadership during:

  • Enrollment declines (from ~67,000 students in 2022–23 to ~65,300 this year)

  • Implementation of Frisco Flex, allowing some out-of-district students to enroll

  • School closures (including Staley Middle School)

  • Ongoing funding challenges

Under Texas law, the district must wait 21 days before officially hiring him.

Big transition. Big responsibility. Big season for Frisco ISD.

🤝 Faith Leaders Call for Unity After “Indian Takeover” Comments

After controversial remarks at a recent City Council meeting about an alleged “Indian takeover,” local faith leaders stepped forward this week to promote unity.

About 90 residents, many wearing blue as a symbol of solidarity, attended the latest council meeting to show support for the Indian community.

Speakers from:

  • Grace Avenue United Methodist Church

  • The Islamic Center of Frisco

  • Karya Siddhi Hanuman Hindu Temple

Shared messages centered on:

  • Shared values

  • Real conversations (in person, not online)

  • Rejecting fear-based rhetoric

Frisco’s growth has brought diversity, opportunity, and change, but also tension.

Hard conversations. Necessary conversations.

🚨 New Details in Teacher Assault Case

New details emerged this week in the arrest affidavit involving a McSpedden Elementary special education teacher charged with injury to a child.

According to the affidavit:

  • Two witnesses reported seeing the teacher strike a 6-year-old student diagnosed with autism.

  • One witness said the child’s cheek remained red for about an hour.

  • The child reportedly showed a marked change in demeanor when shown the teacher’s photo during a forensic interview.

  • The teacher initially denied the slap, later stating she did not recall and said if it occurred, it wasn’t intentional.

The teacher has been placed on administrative leave and is prohibited from entering district property.

Investigation remains ongoing.

🌳 Frisco Approves $22M Increase for Exide Cleanup Ahead of Grand Park

Frisco City Council approved nearly $22.4 million more for environmental cleanup near the former Exide battery recycling site.

Total cleanup cost now: $62 million+

Why this matters:

  • Cleanup is necessary before full development of Grand Park

  • Grand Park will span 1,011 acres along the Dallas North Tollway

  • Civic Park (Phase 1) includes a pond large enough for kayaking

  • Environmental work includes cleaning up Stewart Creek

Groundbreaking for Grand Park is scheduled for the week of April 13.

Yes, that giant stretch of land is finally becoming something.

Translation:
Beautiful Saturday.
Windy Sunday.
Cold again Monday.

Because of course.

That’s your Friday rundown, Frisco.

It’s Friday the 13th. It’s St. Patrick’s weekend. It’s warm now but cold again soon. We’ve got major school leadership changes, community unity conversations, and a circus in town.

If that’s not peak Texas suburb energy, I don’t know what is.

Have a safe weekend. Wear green. Check the wind forecast. And maybe don’t tempt fate too much today.

Catch y’all Monday!
