The Wednesday Loop for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco!

Happy Wednesday and happy October! 🎃 Can you believe we’ve already made it here? One second it was triple digit summer, and the next we’re pretending it’s fall while still sweating through our flannels. But hey, Spirit Halloween is in full swing, pumpkin spice everything is back, and the weather is finally starting play a little nice.

As we roll into a new month, I’ve got you covered on what’s happening around Texas and right here at home, from Abbott’s latest security push, to big savings at the State Fair, to some truly Texas style weekend plans (yes, pumpkin festivals and midget wrestling can coexist).

Let’s dive in.

Texas News Roundup 📰

Abbott Bolstering Security Around Texas Religious Spaces ⛪

Gov. Abbott has directed the Texas Department of Public Safety to increase security at churches, synagogues, mosques, and other faith based spaces after several violent national attacks.

  • The move adds Texas Rangers, Highway Patrol, and DPS Homeland Security to monitor threats.

  • The public is encouraged to use the “iWatch Texas Community Reporting System” for suspicious activity.

Abbott stressed that “places of worship are sacred” and vowed to marshal all resources necessary. This comes at a time when many congregations are already reviewing their own safety plans, meaning Texans will likely see more patrol cars parked outside on Sunday mornings.

State Fair of Texas Rolls Out Discounts & Deals 🎡

The State Fair of Texas is running now through Oct. 19, and good news: there’s no reason to pay full price.

  • Wednesdays: Bring 5 cans for the North Texas Food Bank, admission = $7.

  • Tues & Thurs: Dr Pepper Value Days → $12 entry with promo code.

  • Every day after 5 PM: Everyone pays kids’ price ($14–$24).

  • Seniors (60+): Thursdays = $7 entry.

  • Military & First Responders: $5 off with valid ID.

On top of that, Tuesdays bring discounted Midway rides ($3–$4), and Thrifty Thursdays slash prices on select food items. So whether you’re chasing a Fletcher’s Corny Dog or finally braving the Texas Star Ferris Wheel, there’s a deal to soften the blow to your wallet.

Texas Halts Commercial Licenses for Many Immigrants 🚛

Texas DPS has stopped issuing or renewing commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs) for DACA recipients, refugees, and asylum seekers.

  • Last year, ~6,200 of Texas’s 220,000 CDL holders were “non-domicile” (legal noncitizens).

  • Pending applications are being canceled immediately.

  • The move follows a new federal policy from Trump threatening to pull funding from states that don’t comply.

Supporters say the change keeps roads safer, while critics argue it undercuts industries already battling trucker shortages. With Texas being one of the nation’s biggest freight hubs, this decision could ripple into delivery times, prices, and who’s behind the wheel of the next 18 wheeler you pass on I-35.

Texas Stock Exchange Gets SEC Green Light 💹

Big financial news. The Texas Stock Exchange (TXSE) has received SEC approval and is set to launch in 2026.

  • Headquartered in Dallas, the TXSE is the first fully integrated exchange approved in decades.

  • Backers include BlackRock, Citadel Securities, Charles Schwab, and major Texas CEOs.

  • TXSE will be all electronic with stricter listing standards and simplified order types.

CEO Jim Lee says this could position Dallas as a future financial capital of the world. While NYSE and Nasdaq are already planting flags in North Texas, TXSE’s pitch is speed, tech, and homegrown Texas grit, and it could attract dozens of dual listings from companies tired of Wall Street’s red tape.

Riddle Answer: C) The St. Louis–San Francisco Railway (“the Frisco”). Our town was named after the railway that ran through here. No horses or wildflowers involved.
