Frisco Insider - Snowfall + Laws + More

The Wednesday Loop for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco.

Happy Wednesday, and brrr, can we all agree it officially feels like winter now? My heater’s been working overtime, my car’s convinced it’s living in Alaska, and I’ve reached the point where holding a hot coffee counts as a “coping mechanism.” But hey, the lights are glowing, the air smells like peppermint mochas, and Frisco’s feeling festive even if we’re all freezing our fingertips off.

This week, we’re talking about Texas’ wild card winter forecast, some big education rule changes on the horizon, and a goodbye to a creative Frisco business. Plus, plenty of cozy events to get you out (or keep you bundled up, your choice).

Let’s get into it.

Texas Edition

🌨️ North Texas Winter Weather Outlook: Will It Snow?

Meteorologists say our winter is shaping up to be a “Jekyll and Hyde” season, mild and sunny one week, Arctic chaos the next. Thanks to a weak La Niña, North Texas should expect dry spells interrupted by cold blasts.

  • Expect long dry stretches with sudden cold snaps.

  • The Polar Vortex could still send icy air our way.

  • Snow chances? About 50/50, so maybe keep the sled… but don’t get your hopes up.

Dan Henry from FOX 4 says we’ll “fluctuate wildly,” meaning you might be grilling on Tuesday and salting your driveway by Friday. Classic Texas weather, it keeps us humble, if nothing else.

🏫 Texas Finalizes School Voucher Rules

Texas has officially finalized the rules for its private school voucher program, launching in fall 2026, a plan that could change how thousands of families approach education.

  • Families will get up to $10,300 per student for private tuition.

  • Pre-K students are now confirmed eligible for the full amount.

  • Applications open Feb. 4, 2026 and close mid-March.

The state declined to add new reporting requirements or special education mandates, despite requests from advocates. Critics argue the program lacks transparency and accountability, but supporters say it’s a victory for “school choice and parental freedom.” One thing’s certain, this debate isn’t cooling off anytime soon.

⚖️ New Texas Laws Go Into Effect This Winter

A flurry of new state laws is hitting Texas in December and January, covering everything from education to public safety, and stirring up plenty of controversy along the way.

Highlights include:

  • Creation of the Dementia Prevention and Research Institute of Texas

  • HB 25: Allows buying ivermectin without a prescription

  • HB 8: Replaces the STAAR test with three shorter exams per year

  • SB 8: Restricts which public bathrooms transgender people can use

  • HB 26: Lets sheriffs contract directly with HOAs and schools

The laws range from the highly technical to the highly political, and many are already facing legal challenges. Expect the next few months to bring both policy changes and courtroom drama.

🎬 Makers Gym to Close in Frisco

Frisco’s beloved creative coworking space Makers Gym is closing on December 15, marking the end of an era for local photographers, musicians, and content creators.

Founded in 2021 by Terrance Price, the studio offered access to sound booths, editing suites, and production stages. Rising costs and a need for a “larger creative market” ultimately led to the shutdown.

FRISCO FUN FACT RIDDLE

This trail, once used by cattle drives and settlers, runs through what is now Frisco. What is the trail’s name?

A) Shawnee Trail
B) Chisholm Trail
C) Santa Fe Trail
D) Oregon Trail

Wed (Nov 03) – Mostly Sunny | 60° / 39°
Thu (Nov 04) – Cloudy | 44° / 35°
Fri (Nov 05) – AM Clouds / PM Sun | 51° / 39°
Sat (Nov 06) – Partly Cloudy | 61° / 40°

Translation: We’re cold now, but not “pipes-freezing” cold, yet. Keep that coat nearby though, because in Texas, 60° can turn into sleet before your coffee cools off.

That’s all for this week, Frisco. Stay warm, check on your neighbors, and maybe stock up on hot cocoa and batteries (because, let’s be honest, it’s that season again). Whether you’re shopping local or staying cozy at home, remember, the best way to beat the chill is to spread a little kindness.

See y’all Friday,
— Hamza Sohail | Frisco Insider | December 3, 2025

Answer: A — The Shawnee Trail
This historic route helped cattle drivers move herds north in the 1800s, long before Frisco was on the map. Now, it’s where traffic jams replaced stampedes.
