Howdy, Frisco.

Happy Friday, neighbors! 🍂 The mornings are crisp, the pumpkins are overpriced, and the H-E-B parking lot is starting to look like the State Fair midway. Frisco ISD to Close Staley Middle School After 2025–26

It’s official, one of Frisco’s oldest schools is saying goodbye. The Frisco ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously Monday to close Staley Middle School at the end of the 2025–2026 school year.

  • Opened: 1973 (originally as Frisco High School)

  • Location: 6900 block of Stadium Lane

  • Why it’s closing: Declining enrollment + costly repairs

  • Students will be rezoned to: Griffin, Trent, and Hunt Middle Schools starting in 2026–27

Trustee Sherrie Salas said, “We’d prefer FISD be immune to campus closures, but that’s not the case. The landscape of Texas public education is changing.” The decision follows the failure of Proposition B, a 2024 bond measure that would’ve rebuilt Staley for $102 million.

While it’s a tough loss for longtime residents, district leaders emphasized that the move is about keeping Frisco schools sustainable long term, not shrinking opportunities.

Frisco’s Bryson Howard Commits to Duke 🏀

Big blue just got a big name. Bryson Howard, the No. 1 basketball recruit in Texas and son of former Mavs star Josh Howard, officially committed to Duke this week.

  • School: Frisco Heritage High

  • Height: 6'6"

  • Rank: 4th-best small forward, 12th overall in the U.S.

  • Chose Duke over: Kentucky and North Carolina

Howard led Heritage to the Class 5A State Semifinals last season, putting up 24 points and 13 rebounds in their regional final win. His father, a 2007 NBA All-Star, said he’s proud to see Bryson “carry the Howard legacy forward.”
