Frisco Insider - Samsung + Gators + More

The Wednesday Loop for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco.

We are now officially in that season where stepping outside feels like opening a dishwasher mid-cycle. It’s humid. It’s warm. It’s “why is my steering wheel 400 degrees at 9 a.m.” season.

Also…have you noticed? It’s not even mid June yet and it already feels like we fast-forwarded straight to peak summer. Texas said, “Spring? Never heard of her.”

Grab your iced coffee. Let’s get into it.

Texas Edition

🍑 Warm Winter + Late Freeze = Smaller Texas Fruit Crops

If you were looking forward to peak peach season, here’s the reality check. Mother Nature didn’t fully cooperate this year.

A mild winter meant fewer “chill hours”, the hours below 45°F that fruit trees need to properly rest and bloom. Then, just to keep things interesting, a late freeze hit in March.

Result?
• Lower yields for peaches
• Reduced apple production
• Blueberry & blackberry losses in some areas
• Uneven bud development across orchards

Some growers say they’ll still have enough fruit to open markets, just not bumper crops like strong years.

So if you see peaches this summer? Appreciate them. They worked hard for it.

🐊 9.5 Foot Alligator Blocking Traffic in East Texas

Just your casual midweek reminder that this is Texas.

Deputies in Jasper County had to wrangle and relocate a 9.5 foot alligator that was blocking traffic near FM 1013 by the Neches River.

The gator was safely handed off to Texas Game Wardens for relocation.

Meanwhile, somewhere in Texas:
“Sorry I’m late, boss. Gator traffic.”

🏢 Samsung Moving U.S. Headquarters to Plano

Plano keeps collecting corporate Pokémon cards.

Samsung is relocating its U.S. headquarters to North Texas less than a year after opening one in New Jersey.

Why?
To consolidate operations closer to its semiconductor investments around Austin.

Early reports:
• Around 1,000 employees affected
• New Plano facility expected to open by late 2026
• Exact location TBD

Plano said, “Sure, we’ll take another global tech giant.”

🥫 Texas Ranks No. 1 in Food Insecurity

This one’s important.

Texas leads the nation in food insecurity, with 1 in 6 Texans facing hunger, including more than 442,000 children.

With school out, many families lose access to daily school meals.

On June 11, WFAA will host the annual Nourish North Texas Telethon, partnering with North Texas Food Bank and Tarrant Area Food Bank.

H-E-B will match donations up to $100,000.

Goal: 1 million meals for kids this summer.

It’s one of those “small donation, big impact” moments.
