Frisco Insider - Rain + Mavericks + More

The Wednesday Loop for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco!

I hope everyone’s been doing well and keeping warm out there. Texas pulled a Texas and decided to throw another weather curveball at us, right in time for Valentine’s weekend. So if your romantic picnic plans involved roses and sunshine, you might want to substitute them for rain boots and an umbrella.

On the bright side (pun intended), I’ve got a lineup of events that’ll keep your Valentine’s weekend fun, even if you’re dodging raindrops. Let’s get into it.

Texas Edition

🌧️ Widespread Rain Expected Valentine’s Day

Well, love is in the air, and so is a lot of moisture. North Texas meteorologists have called a Weather Alert Day for Saturday as widespread rain showers and isolated storms roll through the region. The good news is that we actually need the rain since DFW’s been in a drought stretch this season.

The bad news? If you had outdoor Valentine’s plans, rooftop dinner, lakeside date, or even a romantic dog walk, you may want to start thinking indoors. The severe weather risk is low, but roads will be slick, and traffic might be a mess. So maybe skip the candlelit picnic and opt for candlelit tacos at home instead.

🏢 Dallas Leads the Return to Office Revolution

New data says Dallas is one of the top cities pushing employees back to the office, with about 85% of job openings now fully in person. That’s higher than Houston, Austin, and San Antonio.

In short….remote work is fading fast. The JobLeads report says employers are emphasizing collaboration and company culture again (translation: they want to see your face by the water cooler). Hybrid models make up about 9%, but remote only jobs? Just 6%.

Companies like Southwest Airlines, Uber, and Amazon are leading the return, some requiring up to five days a week in office. So if you’ve been bragging about your pajama pants productivity, it might be time to dust off those dress shoes.

🏀 Mark Cuban Might Buy Back Majority of the Dallas Mavericks

Could Mark Cuban be returning to the driver’s seat of the Mavs? Rumors say he’s considering buying back his majority stake in the team less than three years after selling it for $3.5 billion.

The current ownership group, led by Patrick Dumont (Miriam Adelson’s son-in-law), has reportedly pushed back, saying they’re committed to the team’s future. But with the Mavs struggling this season (currently 19–33 and sitting 12th in the West), fans are eager for change.

Between Luka Doncic’s shocking trade and a full front office shakeup, Dallas basketball has had more plot twists than a Netflix drama. Cuban’s comeback would definitely heat things up again.

🚗 Waymo’s Driverless Cars Enter Final Testing in Dallas

You might’ve seen those white SUVs with spinning radar domes gliding through Dallas lately, that’s Waymo, Google’s self driving car company, now entering the final phase of testing before launching public robotaxi rides.

Employees are already taking completely driverless rides (yep, no human behind the wheel), and the company expects to open the service to the public sometime this year. The rollout will focus on downtown Dallas and Love Field, staying off highways for now.

Experts say Dallas’s tech savvy crowd, business growth, and mild winters make it a perfect testing ground. So if you spot a car cruising solo next to you, don’t panic. It’s just the future arriving, one awkward lane change at a time.
