The Monday Scoop For Frisco

Howdy Frisco,

Happy Monday, y’all ☕ If you’re feeling the daylight saving time struggle, trust me, you’re not alone. One minute we’re enjoying extra daylight, and the next, we’re wondering why we feel jet-lagged without leaving Texas. But hey, the sun is shining, spring is creeping in, and Frisco is keeping things exciting as usual.

Here’s what’s cookin’ today:

✔️ A public hearing is coming up for Frisco’s Center for the Arts project
✔️ Dallas North Tollway lane closures (yes, more of them)
✔️ A Frisco man was shot by police, his family wants answers
✔️ Frisco is doubling down on startups and trying to lure in more tech entrepreneurs
✔️ Events & weather so you don’t get caught in the rain (literally)

Speak Your Mind: Public Hearing on Frisco’s Center for the Arts

If you’re passionate about Frisco’s arts & culture scene, you might want to mark April 7 on your calendar. The city is holding a public hearing about using sales tax revenue to fund the proposed Frisco Center for the Arts.

📍 Where? City Hall, 6101 Frisco Square Blvd.
🕕 When? April 7 at 6:00 PM

If you have thoughts, concerns, or just really want a fancy new performance venue in town, this is your chance to speak up. Just don’t expect a Broadway-level performance from city officials, it’ll be more PowerPoint than playbill.

More Dallas North Tollway Closures This Week

Just when you thought you memorized all the construction detours, here comes another round of closures.

March 9 - 15:

🚫 Panther Creek Pkwy. exit ramp (NB) – CLOSED
🚫 SH 121/Headquarters Dr. exit ramp (SB) – CLOSED
🚫 DNT entrance ramp at SH 121 (NB) – CLOSED

Overnight Closures (March 9 - 12, 10 PM - 5 AM):
🚧 SRT to DNT direct-connector ramps (both directions) – CLOSED
🚧 NB DNT right lane from Headquarters Dr. to Gaylord Pkwy. – CLOSED

Moral of the story? Leave earlier than usual, update your Waze app, and maybe bring a snack for the unexpected detour adventure.

Man Shot by Frisco Police, Family Demands Answers

This one is tough. A 43-year-old Frisco man, Gregory Dylan Sheppard, was shot by police last Thursday as they attempted to serve a felony warrant in a gated community.

His family says they still don’t know what really happened. Police claim he was holding a gun, but they haven’t released body cam footage or details about how things escalated.

His family describes him as responsible, respectful, and an outdoorsman with a master’s degree in geology. They’re frustrated by the lack of transparency, and honestly? So is the community.

More details should come out in the coming days, but for now, it’s a tragic and unsettling situation.

Frisco Wants More Startups (And They're Going All In)

Frisco is already home to big companies like PGA of America and TIAA, but now the city wants to become a go-to destination for startups, tech innovators, and entrepreneurs.

They even created a brand-new job title, VP of Corporate and Innovation Recruitment (say that five times fast).

His job? Convince startups that Frisco is where they need to be.

Why Frisco?
✅ Huge talent pool – 66% of DFW’s tech workforce is within 30 minutes
✅ Corporate partnerships – Big businesses are collaborating with startups
✅ Investment opportunities – Venture capital firms are eyeing Frisco
✅ Top schools – Kids here literally start their own businesses in high school

It’s a smart move, but time will tell if Frisco can pull in the next big tech unicorn. (And no, I don’t mean a literal unicorn. Unless someone’s working on that? That’d be cool.)
