The Friday Recap for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco, Happy Friday!
Well, it happened again, one minute we’re in short sleeves, the next we’re debating turning on the heater. Welcome to Frisco in January, where the weather can’t decide if it’s sunbathing season or soup season. 🥶
But cold or not, this city is growing way too fast for me to keep up. New developments, new offices, more basketball trophies, and yes, more roadwork. By the time I finish typing this, there’s probably another new thing happening somewhere between Main and Panther Creek.
Let’s get into your Friday news and weekend lineup, plenty of reasons to step outside (just maybe layer up first).

🏢 Frisco Chamber of Commerce Expands to Bigger Rail District Office
The Frisco Chamber of Commerce is leveling up. After over 40 years in the Rail District, the Chamber is moving just down the street to a much larger two story office at 7511 Main St., inside Patios at the Rail.
The new space nearly doubles their footprint, featuring:
Two floors of offices
Collaborative areas
A podcast studio (finally, local biz podcasts incoming)
Event rooms for workshops and leadership development
The move, planned for July 2026, is part of the Chamber’s goal to expand resources for small businesses, startups, and entrepreneurs.
Mayor Jeff Cheney called the Chamber a “cornerstone” of the Rail District, saying this expansion will help reimagine downtown for the next phase of Frisco’s growth. (Translation: more parking wars, but also more cool coffee shops.)
🧑💻 Frisco ISD Schools Face More Email Threats
Frisco ISD had a tense start to the week after another round of email threats hit several schools on Wednesday morning.
Police said the messages were similar to Monday’s, prompting brief “secure” statuses before schools were cleared.
The threats were determined to be non credible, and all campuses have since resumed normal operations.
Officials haven’t said which schools were targeted or what the messages contained.
Parents again rushed to campuses, with some opting to keep kids home out of caution. Frisco PD is now working with cyber investigators to trace the emails, which appear linked to a larger string of hoax threats across North Texas schools this month.
No injuries, no arrests yet, but plenty of headaches for parents and administrators alike.
🚓 Frisco PD Spending $1M+ on Vehicle Upgrades
The Frisco Police Department is gearing up, literally. The city council just approved over $1 million for new vehicles, tech, and safety upgrades.
Here’s the breakdown:
$188K for new in-car video systems
$109K for two new Chevy Tahoes
$285K for updated radios
$1M for vehicle outfitting across the department
Officers finished training with the new tools in December, and the upgrades will roll out through 2026.
🏀 Frisco ISD Girls Basketball: A Dynasty That Just Keeps Winning
Move over, Southlake, Frisco is the high school basketball powerhouse right now.
Four Frisco ISD teams, Wakeland, Emerson, Memorial, and Lone Star, are all ranked Top 10 in the Dallas area, with Wakeland sitting at #5 statewide.
Key highlights:
Frisco ISD has won three state titles, produced five runner up finishes, and sent 11 teams to the semifinals over the years.
Wakeland’s Charlotte Cavin is averaging 23 points per game and setting school records left and right.
As one coach put it: “We compete with each other so much that everyone’s forced to raise their game.”
The girls’ motto this year? “Win in the Dark.” Judging by the standings, they’re doing exactly that.
