Frisco Insider - PGA + Arrest + More

The Monday Scoop for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco.

If you stepped outside this morning and thought, “Wow, it’s basically summer,” just wait. By Wednesday, we’re back to jackets. March in Texas is undefeated.

We’ve got big sports news, serious school updates, tech debates, and some solid weekday events. Let’s get into it.

🏌️ PGA Frisco Gears Up for the 2027 PGA Championship

It’s been 64 years since Dallas-Fort Worth hosted a men’s golf major. That drought ends in May 2027, and the hype is already real.

The 2027 PGA Championship will be held May 17–23 at Fields Ranch East at PGA Frisco, and corporate hospitality packages are already nearly sold out more than a year in advance.

Why this is a big deal:

  • First men’s major in DFW since 1963

  • First men’s major in Texas since 1969

  • 100-year anniversary of the 1927 PGA Championship

Projected impact:

  • ~200,000 visitors during championship week

  • Over $100 million in economic impact

  • Global reach to 500+ million households

And this isn’t PGA Frisco’s first rodeo:

  • 2023 Senior PGA Championship

  • 2025 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship

  • 26 total championships scheduled through 2034

Between the Omni Resort, PGA District, Ronny Golf Park, and now this… Frisco isn’t just “hosting events” anymore. It’s becoming a permanent major championship destination.

Mark it now: May 2027 is going to be wild.

🚨 Special Education Teacher Charged with Felony

A special education teacher at McSpedden Elementary, Patricia Kemper (54), has been charged with injury to a child, a third-degree felony.

What we know:

  • Allegation was reported by Frisco ISD

  • Immediate joint investigation launched with Frisco Police

  • Teacher placed on administrative leave immediately

  • She has not been on campus since the allegation

  • She turned herself in earlier this week

The charge carries a potential penalty of:

  • 2–10 years in prison

  • Up to $10,000 fine

Frisco ISD says counselors and campus administrators are available for students and families. The investigation remains active.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Frisco PD at (972) 292-6010.

🚓 License Plate Reader Technology Expands in Frisco

Frisco Police are seeing measurable results from automated license plate readers (ALPRs), commonly known through the Flock Safety network.

In its first year of use:

  • Over 102 arrests tied to Flock “hits”

The system:

  • Scans license plates

  • Alerts officers to stolen vehicles, wanted persons, missing persons, or warrants

  • Connects with a statewide network (122 agencies share data with DPS)

Supporters say it helps solve crimes faster.

Critics raise concerns about:

  • Surveillance scope

  • Potential misuse

  • Privacy issues

Frisco PD says:

  • Every search is logged and audited

  • Additional steps are required to run searches

  • Safeguards are in place

Like most tech tools, powerful, useful, and heavily debated.

🚧 Weekly Roadwork Roundup

New Pavement Replacement:

  • 877 Jennala Dr.

Ongoing:

  • 14277 Rising Star Blvd.
