Frisco Insider - Netflix + Speeding Ticket + More

The Wednesday Loop for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco.

If you walked outside this week and immediately felt like you opened an oven set to “preheat,” you’re not alone. My AC has officially clocked in for summer overtime, and we’re only halfway through May. It’s giving “August energy” already.

Grab something cold. Let’s get into it.

Texas Edition

🎬 Texas Sues Netflix Over Alleged Data Tracking & “Addictive” Features

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit this week against Netflix, alleging the streaming giant tracks and profits from user data, including children’s, without proper transparency.

The suit claims Netflix marketed itself as a safe alternative to ad driven Big Tech platforms, but later built an advertising business fueled by user data it had collected over time. It also argues features like autoplay are intentionally designed to keep users watching longer.

Netflix responded saying the lawsuit lacks merit and that their parental controls and privacy practices are industry leading.

Translation: Texas vs. “Are you still watching?”

Court battle incoming. 🍿

👮‍♂️ Police Chief Pulls Over Speeding Moms…and Gives Photos Instead of Tickets

In Valley Mills, Texas, Police Chief Michael Hamilton pulled over mothers on Mother’s Day, but instead of tickets, they got warnings and commemorative photos.

Hamilton said he wanted to recognize moms whose “job never ends.” After hearing his own wife say the same thing, he decided to make other moms’ day a little lighter.

Every mother reportedly left smiling and relieved.

Honestly? This might be the most wholesome traffic stop plot twist we’ve ever seen.

🏫 Texas Public Schools See First Non-Pandemic Enrollment Drop in Decades

Texas public schools saw a decline of roughly 76,000 students this year, the first enrollment drop outside of pandemic years in nearly 40 years.

Hispanic students accounted for the majority of the decline. Researchers cite multiple possible causes:

• Declining birth rates
• Immigration enforcement concerns
• Families choosing alternative education options
• School voucher programs launching later this year

Texas educates about 5.5 million students, and school funding is based on attendance, meaning enrollment shifts can directly impact district budgets.

Experts called it an “inflection point.”

Big policy conversations are coming.
