The Wednesday Loop for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco!

Happy Wednesday, folks, you’re officially halfway through the week! 🚦

Quick PSA before we dive in: Monday night, I drove down Preston and saw a civilian car nose-deep in a construction ditch. No clue how it got there (or how they got it out), but it was a good reminder that Frisco roads are basically obstacle courses right now. So, take it slow out there, the cones aren’t going anywhere.

Now, onto what’s shaking around Texas this week, from National Guard deployments making headlines, to Exxon pressing pause on a billion dollar plastics project, to some serious sunshine that’s sticking around. Plus, I’ve rounded up your weekend lineup featuring everything from a massive gem show to a wine and music fest that’s basically North Texas’ fall Super Bowl.

Let’s jump in.

Texas News Roundup 📰

Texas National Guard Arrives in Chicago to Support Trump’s “Clean Up” Plan 🪖

Four hundred Texas National Guard members are now on the ground in Chicago as part of a federal operation to support President Trump’s initiative to “clean up” major cities. The troops are reportedly stationed to protect federal property and employees amid ongoing clashes between ICE agents and protesters.

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker is not happy about it, he’s suing to block the deployment, calling it “unlawful and dangerous.” Abbott, on the other hand, says the “elite Texas Guard” is putting America first. Translation: political drama just went interstate.

Exxon Delays $10 Billion Plastics Plant on Texas Coast 🏭

Exxon Mobil announced it’s pressing pause on plans for a massive new plastics plant in Calhoun County, citing “market conditions.” The $10 billion project was expected to create thousands of jobs and churn out 3 million tons of polyethylene pellets per year.

The decision comes just six weeks after a judge struck down the local school district’s tax break deal with Exxon, thanks to a lawsuit by environmental activist Diane Wilson. While Exxon insists it’s an economic move, Wilson says community pushback “definitely played into it.” Either way, coastal Texans are breathing a bit easier, at least for now.

Warmer-than-Average Temperatures Continue in North Texas ☀️

October may be on the calendar, but North Texas clearly didn’t get the memo. Temperatures are still hitting 87–90° this week, a solid 5–10 degrees above normal. A weak front is teasing some cloud cover, but don’t count on much rain.

Meteorologists say a ridge of high pressure is to blame, keeping skies sunny and humidity low. In short: enjoy it now, because in true Texas fashion, it’ll probably be freezing by Halloween.

Texas Ends ABA’s Accreditation Monopoly ⚖️

Big legal shakeup, the Texas Supreme Court has voted to end the American Bar Association’s century long monopoly on law school accreditation. Starting in 2026, aspiring lawyers in Texas won’t have to graduate from an ABA approved school to sit for the bar exam.

The move follows criticism of the ABA’s DEI policies and alleged political bias in education standards. Florida and several other states are expected to follow suit soon. For Texas law students, this could mean more affordable pathways to becoming attorneys, and maybe even a few new law schools popping up right here at home.

Riddle Answer: B) 332 — Yup, just 332 people called Frisco home in 1910. Today? Over 225,000. Not bad for a town that started as a railroad stop. 🚂
