The Wednesday Loop for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco and Happy April Fools
Before we get started…take a deep breath. Check your group chats. Double check your kids’ school emails. And maybe don’t believe everything you read for the next 24 hours.
I hope everyone’s doing well this week. The allergies are aggressive, the wind is personal, and somehow your trash cans are always in your neighbor’s yard. Classic North Texas spring.
Alright, let’s jump into today’s edition. And yes… read carefully.

Texas Edition
🏙️ Frisco Officials Discuss Changing City Name to “Spity”
In a surprise development Tuesday afternoon, city officials reportedly discussed a proposal to rename Frisco to “Spity”, a blend of “Sports City”, reflecting the city’s identity as one of the top sports destinations in the country.
With the Dallas Cowboys at The Star, FC Dallas at Toyota Stadium, the PGA headquarters, Frisco RoughRiders, and countless youth tournaments every weekend, leaders allegedly said the name would “better align with the city’s brand.”
Early mockups of signage were rumored to include slogans like:
“Welcome to Spity, Where Championships Live.”
Residents were reportedly divided, with some calling it bold marketing….and others asking who approved this at 3 a.m.
April Fools.
We’re still Frisco. Relax.
(But you have to admit… it would’ve been the most Frisco thing ever.)

🗺️ Texas House Speaker Orders Study on Annexing Parts of New Mexico
In real, and slightly wild political news, Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows has directed a legislative committee to study the possibility of annexing one or more counties from southeastern New Mexico.
The proposal asks the committee to review the constitutional, legal, and economic implications of potentially adding neighboring counties to Texas.
This comes after leaders in Lea County, NM previously floated ideas about separating from their state due to political differences with Santa Fe. That proposal has since been postponed indefinitely.
New Mexico’s governor has dismissed the idea as “not a serious proposal,” and state officials there have made it clear they intend to keep their borders intact.
For now, this is just a study, no borders are moving. But if Texas grows any bigger, we’re going to need a bigger Buc-ee’s. Is it even possibly to make a bigger Buc-ee’s?
🚨 Plano Massage School Shut Down Amid Fraud & Trafficking Allegations
Texas regulators have ordered the immediate shutdown of the Greater DFW International Massage Academy LLC in Plano.
An emergency order revoked the school’s license after investigators found alleged falsified student records, students receiving licenses without completing required training hours, and links to illegal massage businesses tied to human trafficking investigations.
Officials say some students were given academic credit before obtaining required permits, and records even showed attendance logged for dates in the future. (Which.… impressive time travel, but not legal.)
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation emphasized they are committed to protecting legitimate students and upholding the integrity of the massage therapy profession.
The school must cease operations immediately unless otherwise authorized.
🏠 McKinney Homeowner Still Fighting for $60K After SWAT Standoff
Nearly six years after a 2020 SWAT standoff severely damaged her McKinney home, homeowner Vicki Baker is still in court seeking compensation from the city.
The incident began when a fugitive broke into her home and barricaded himself inside. SWAT officers used tear gas, breached doors, and deployed an armored vehicle during the response. The suspect later died by suicide.
A federal judge previously ruled the City of McKinney must pay Baker roughly $59,656 plus interest under the Texas Constitution. The case is now before the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals again, and a decision could come within weeks.
If upheld, her award could potentially double with interest and fees.
It’s a case that could impact how cities handle compensation when private property is damaged during police operations.
