The Friday Recap for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco.
We did it, y’all. After what felt like seventeen decades of detours, cones, and honking contests, Main Street construction is finally done in the Rail District. I repeat, DONE. I almost teared up driving through without having to play “which lane disappears next?” This calls for a parade….or at least a parking spot near Randy’s Steakhouse.
Anyway, we’ve got a jam packed newsletter this week, from Universal’s upcoming auditions to rising city fees and a local coffee shop’s double heartbreak. Plus, a weekend lineup that’s all about movies, pizza, stars, and (of course) football. Let’s jump in.

🚧 Frisco Completes Main Street Road Work in Rail District
After nearly two years of construction (and countless complaints from drivers), Main Street is officially open again. All lanes in the Rail District reopened December 23, marking the end of a 19-month, $76.3 million project that reimagined downtown Frisco.
The city celebrated with applause at Tuesday’s council meeting.
Crews are now finishing lighting, landscaping, and minor touch ups, expected to wrap by end of January.
The new Fourth Street Plaza and parking garage will open by early summer, with live music and art installations inspired by Fort Collins and Cary, NC.
While excitement fills the air (and parking spots), not all businesses survived the long roadwork. However locals are optimistic. Randy from Randy’s Steakhouse says business is picking up again: “2026 will be an exciting year.”
So if you needed a reason to stroll downtown, now’s your moment. Support the shops, grab a latte from La Finca (they could really use it, more on that below), and enjoy Main Street without dodging bulldozers.
☕ La Finca Coffee & Bakery Burglarized Twice in One Week
In heartbreaking news, La Finca Coffee & Bakery, a beloved spot in the Rail District, was burglarized twice, once on New Year’s Eve, and again on January 4.
Security footage shows a suspect with a dog (yes, really) breaking in before dawn and stealing cash. Days later, another break in left the back door damaged.
Owner Lee Gonzales said the back to back incidents have shaken his sense of security but strengthened community support. Customers are rallying behind him, encouraging Frisco residents to stop by for a coffee or pastry to help the local favorite bounce back.
As one customer said: “The best way to get out of the struggle is to help each other, not hurt each other.” Couldn’t agree more.
💦 Frisco Stormwater Utility Fee to Increase 20%
Starting February 1, Frisco residents will see a 20% increase in their monthly Stormwater Utility Fee, a not so fun part of the city’s environmental compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
Single family homes fall into three size based tiers.
Commercial properties will now pay $2.07 per 1,000 sq. ft. of impervious area, up from $1.73.
The hike was approved as part of the 2025–26 budget adopted in September.
The city says additional increases may follow in future years to fund drainage improvements, pollution prevention, and public education. Translation: you might want to double check those gutters before the next big Texas storm.
🎭 Universal Kids Resort Frisco Announces Performer Auditions
DreamWorks? Nickelodeon? Shrek and SpongeBob? Yes, please.
The upcoming Universal Kids Resort Frisco is holding open auditions next month for live performers, dancers, costume characters, acrobats, and stage crew.
