The Friday Recap for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco! Happy Friday
We’ve got thunderstorms in the forecast, pollen in the air, and somehow….a packed weekend of events anyway.
Between World Cup prep, warehouse debates, and karaoke every Monday, this city really does not slow down. And honestly? We’ve got some good events this week.
Let’s get into it.

🚨 Hoax Threat Prompts Lockdown at Memorial High
Memorial High School was placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon after a fake threat involving claims of a gunman and a bomb.
Here’s what happened:
Around 12:30 PM, a school resource officer received a call from an unknown person claiming they were outside with a gun and that a bomb was on campus.
Emergency protocols were immediately activated.
Frisco Police responded with officers and bomb dogs.
The campus and parking lot were thoroughly searched.
Nothing was found.
Police later confirmed the threat was a hoax, and the lockdown was lifted around 2:00 PM.
Frisco ISD said students and staff followed safety procedures well, and because the incident happened during lunch, the school made sure students who missed their meal still had the opportunity to eat once normal operations resumed.
At this time:
No suspect has been publicly identified.
Police continue investigating.
Scary situation, but thankfully, no danger and a strong response from both campus staff and law enforcement.

🏭 Controversial Warehouse Expansion Approved Along SH 121
Despite strong neighborhood opposition, Frisco City Council voted 4–2 to approve an expanded warehouse development along State Highway 121.
The original proposal covered about 28 acres.
The updated plan now expands across 98 acres near the Richwoods neighborhood.
Residents voiced concerns about:
Traffic congestion
Increased semi-truck traffic
Noise
Air quality
Impact on property values
Neighbors have collected around 2,000 petition signatures, asking for more impact studies and clarity on potential tenants.
Some council members suggested tabling the vote for more analysis, but the measure ultimately passed.
Mayor Jeff Cheney said he believes it’s a good use of the site.
Important note: This project still faces additional approval steps, so it’s not the final chapter yet.
If you live near 121, this will likely remain a topic of conversation for a while.
🏘️ Greenway Village at The Link Construction Complete
On the flip side of development news, construction has officially wrapped up on Greenway Village at The Link.
This new 215-unit luxury rental community is located near the PGA of America Headquarters and includes great luxury housing units.
The property sits on 31 acres and connects directly to:
50 acres of green space
Walking trails
Omni PGA Frisco Resort
Field Ranch golf course
Amenities include:
Resort-style pool
Fitness center
Resident lounge
Outdoor gathering spaces
Finished in February and ready for residents.
⚽ World Cup Base Camp Update
With 100 days until the 2026 World Cup kicks off, officials announced potential base camp assignments for North Texas.
If certain UEFA playoff teams advance, one group winner could train at Toyota Stadium in Frisco.
AT&T Stadium will host nine matches, more than any other venue, including games featuring defending champion Argentina.
While Argentina won’t base camp here, Frisco is preparing for large watch parties and fan activations throughout the tournament.
Mayor Cheney said Frisco plans to host watch parties for every World Cup match.
From youth soccer fields to global stage, Frisco’s summer is going to be busy.
