Frisco Insider - Last edition + Laws + More

The Wednesday Loop for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco.

We made it, y’all, the final day of 2025.

Before we jump into fireworks, food, and a little too much sparkling cider (or… the stronger stuff, no judgment), I just want to take a second to say thank you. This marks the first full year of Frisco Insider, and I can’t even put into words how grateful I am for each of you who’s been part of this growing little community.

When I started this newsletter, it was just me, a keyboard, and way too much coffee, but it’s turned into something real. Every reply, every “this made me smile,” every event suggestion or local photo, y’all made this feel like neighbors chatting over coffee instead of just another email in an inbox.

We’ve covered wild weather, new laws, road closures, and a bunch of other stuff. You’ve stuck through it all, and for that, I’m endlessly thankful. So as we step into 2026 together, brighter, bolder, and still complaining about traffic on Preston, just know this: you’re the reason this works. I am so grateful for each person reading this right now.

Alright, before I get too emotional, here’s your final news round up and your New Year’s event guide (and yes, I know… they’re all New Year’s events, but hey, it’s that kind of week).

Let’s close out 2025 Frisco style.

Texas Edition

🏆 25 World Records Broken in Texas This Year

From lightning bolts to LEGO builds, Texans went all out in 2025, smashing 25 Guinness World Records.
Highlights include:

  • The fastest marathon dressed as a scientist (female), 3 hours, 17 minutes, 31 seconds.

  • The oldest bus driver, still rolling at 94.

  • A McKinney dachshund named Jerry, who removed 11 bottle caps in one minute (and yes, he deserves all the treats).

  • Even Cardi B and Walmart teamed up to break the record for most deliveries by drones across DFW.

From tiny towns to massive cities, Texans proved once again, we don’t just do big, we do record breaking.

🏥 Texas Secures $281 Million for Rural Health Care

Texas is getting the largest share of the new $50 billion federal Rural Health Transformation Program, with $281 million set to land in 2026. The funds aim to save struggling rural hospitals, expand wellness programs, and recruit healthcare workers to areas that need them most.

After years of closures and staff shortages, this funding could finally bring stability, or at least stop the domino effect of shutdowns in small towns across the state.

🧠 New Texas Laws Take Effect Jan. 1

Ring in the new year with….new rules. Over 30 laws go into effect on January 1, shaping everything from tech to taxes.
Here are a few to watch:

  • AI Transparency Act: requires companies to disclose when AI is used and bans discriminatory systems.

  • SB 38: cracks down on squatters and speeds up eviction cases.

  • HB 9: raises business property tax exemptions to $125,000, a big win for small business owners.

  • SB 8: expands cooperation between local law enforcement and ICE, drawing mixed reactions across Texas.

One law that won’t be active? The App Store Accountability Act, which was blocked by a federal judge earlier this month.

🏈 Sarkisian Calls Out “Unlicensed Agents” in College Football

Texas coach Steve Sarkisian is sounding off about the wild west of college football recruiting. With NIL deals and the transfer portal reshaping the sport, Sark says the lack of agent certification has made things chaotic.

He joked that some agents are “just college roommates playing sports manager,” throwing absurd demands at programs. With 13 Longhorns hitting the transfer portal before the Citrus Bowl, his frustration might hit close to home. Still, he insists the NCAA needs reform, and soon.

Answer: B, Falling student enrollment. After years of nonstop growth, the district is now adjusting to fewer students (and tighter budgets).
