The Friday Recap for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco!

Happy Friday, neighbors! We made it through another week of homework battles, construction cones, and surprise H-E-B runs. Yesterday, as we paused for 9/11, Frisco joined the nation in remembering and honoring the lives lost and the heroes who stepped forward that day. Today, we move ahead with gratitude, and a lineup of news and weekend events to keep you in the loop.

Frisco Apartment Complex Evacuated After Suspicious Device 🚨

On Thursday, Frisco police, fire crews, and the Plano Bomb Squad evacuated an apartment complex on Printers Way after reports of a “suspicious device.”

📍 Location: Printers Way (between Legacy Dr. & Dallas North Tollway)
🚔 Response: Complex evacuated “out of an abundance of caution”
🕵️ Status: Investigation ongoing, officials asking residents to avoid the area

No injuries were reported, and police are keeping details tight lipped for now. Translation: stay clear, stay calm, and maybe triple check your smoke alarms this weekend, just in case.

Frisco’s Tejasvi Manoj Named Time’s Kid of the Year ✨

Big news from Lebanon Trail High School, junior Tejasvi Manoj has been named Time Magazine’s 2025 Kid of the Year!

  • Her project: Shield Seniors, a website teaching older adults how to spot and avoid online scams

  • Inspiration: Her grandfather was almost tricked into wiring $2,000 in a fake debt scam

  • Accomplishments: TEDx talk, honorable mention in 2024 Congressional App Challenge, visits to senior living centers

Her platform is still in preview, but already catching national attention. Safe to say, Frisco just found its next hometown hero, and the rest of us suddenly feel very unaccomplished.

Frisco Lab CEO & Doctors Pay $6M in False Claims Case 💸

True Health Diagnostics and its former CEO Christopher Grottenthaler agreed to a $6 million settlement after federal prosecutors accused them of fraudulent billing and kickback schemes.

⚖️ Allegations: Paying kickbacks disguised as consulting fees, waiving copays to boost referrals, billing unnecessary tests
🧾 Case: Began in 2016 with whistleblower complaint, involved multiple doctors and marketers
👨‍⚕️ Settlements: Local doctors and marketers also agreed to pay fines ranging from $124K–$234K

The U.S. Attorney’s office made it clear: fraud against Medicare, Medicaid, and TRICARE won’t go unchecked. Moral of the story, don’t mess with Texans, and definitely don’t mess with Texas prosecutors.

Community Rallies for Frisco’s Beloved “Snow Cone Lady” 🍧

Mary Mathis Sanchez, better known as Frisco’s Snow Cone Lady, is recovering after multiple strokes, and the community is stepping up big time.

  • Location: Mary’s iconic stand on Main St. (40+ years running!)

  • Challenge: Closed most of summer due to construction & Mary’s sudden health setback

  • Support: Benefit concert scheduled for Sept. 28, fundraiser events ongoing

  • Family says: Mary is recovering, and her spirit is as strong as ever

Her secret recipe snow cones have been a tradition for generations, and now, Frisco is making sure her legacy continues. If love could heal, Mary would already be back behind the counter.
