The Friday Recap for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco, Happy Friday!
You made it. Another week survived.
The kids are officially in summer mode, your lawn is somehow growing faster than your bank account, and every afternoon thunderstorm now feels like Texas spinning a giant weather wheel and seeing what happens.
This weekend is a big one around town.
We've got a major verdict in one of the most talked about cases Frisco has ever seen, a mayoral runoff election happening tomorrow, a bizarre psychic fraud scheme that somehow sounds like a Netflix documentary, and enough events to keep you busy until Monday.
So grab some coffee, hide from the humidity, and let's get into it.

⚖️ Karmelo Anthony Sentenced to 35 Years in Austin Metcalf Case
One of the most closely watched criminal trials in North Texas has officially reached a verdict.
A Collin County jury found 19 year old Karmelo Anthony guilty of murder in the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf, the Frisco Memorial student athlete who was killed during a Frisco ISD track meet in April 2025.
The jury later sentenced Anthony to:
35 years in prison
Rejected the defense's "sudden passion" argument
Incident occurred at Kuykendall Stadium during a district track meet
Austin Metcalf was 17 years old at the time of his death
The trial lasted more than a week and included testimony from students, coaches, law enforcement officers, medical experts, and eyewitnesses. Jurors ultimately sided with prosecutors, who argued Anthony used deadly force during an altercation under a team tent.
Less than 24 hours after sentencing, Anthony's legal team filed a notice of appeal.
No matter where anyone stands on the case, one thing remains true:
A young man lost his life, another young man will spend decades in prison, and multiple families have been forever changed by what happened that day.
It's a tragedy all around, and our community will likely be talking about it for years to come.

🗳️ Election Day Is TOMORROW
Frisco voters head back to the polls on Saturday, June 13 to choose the city's next mayor.
For the first time in nearly a decade, Frisco is electing a new mayor as longtime Mayor Jeff Cheney reaches his term limit.
The runoff features:
Rod Vilhauer
Mark Hill
This race has become one of the most expensive local elections in Frisco history.
More than $1 million has been spent by candidates and political groups
Mailers seem to arrive approximately every 14 seconds
Your text messages have probably become campaign headquarters
Only about 25,000 voters participated in the first round of voting despite Frisco having roughly 140,000 registered voters.
Tomorrow's winner will help guide the city through some massive projects, including:
Universal Kids Resort
PGA expansion and growth
Transportation planning
Future development as Frisco nears build-out
If you've been saying, "I should probably vote," consider this your friendly reminder.
Tomorrow's the day.
🔮 Frisco Couple Accused in $2.5 Million Psychic Fraud Scheme
Well.
This is certainly a headline.
Federal authorities say a Frisco couple allegedly convinced victims they could:
Communicate telepathically with angels
Remove curses affecting relationships
Cleanse "karmic debt"
Return all money afterward
Spoiler alert: authorities say the money was not returned.
Investigators allege the couple convinced at least three victims to hand over: Cash, Gold, and Jewelry.
Total value:
$2.5 million.
According to federal prosecutors, one victim allegedly sold her home to purchase gold coins for a "curse cleansing."
Another reportedly gave up a Corvette and access to credit cards.
Authorities say the pair specifically targeted people experiencing:
Divorce
Loss of loved ones
Depression or isolation
Both suspects are now facing federal fraud charges and could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
Meanwhile, somewhere in Frisco, somebody's grandmother is currently texting her friend:
"I told you those Facebook psychics were sketchy."
