The Friday Recap for Frisco
Howdy, Frisco!
It’s Friday, April 18, and just like your allergies, the local news will find you. From bond reductions to Easter egg launches, we’ve got everything you need to keep up, calm down, and hop into the weekend like a pro.
📰 In the News
Karmelo Anthony Released on Bond; Self-Defense Claim Looms
After being held on a $1 million bond for the fatal stabbing of 17 year old Austin Metcalf at a Frisco ISD track meet, 17 year old Karmelo Anthony was released this week after a judge lowered his bond to $250,000.
Judge Angela Tucker cited Anthony’s age, clean record, and low flight risk, but added strict conditions:
📍 House arrest
📍 Ankle monitor
📍 Weekly check ins
His legal team is pursuing a self-defense argument. Meanwhile, Frisco PD and the DA's office are continuing the investigation.
Outside court, activists met with Anthony's family, calling for calm as racial tensions and online threats swirl. Community members are grieving, debating, and doing their best to stay united through tragedy.
Bullet That Hit Hosp Elementary Came from Neighbor’s Home
Remember the mysterious projectile that hit Hosp Elementary last month?
Turns out, a neighbor accidentally fired a handgun while searching her house, believing there was an intruder. The bullet went through her wall and struck the school. No one was hurt, and officials confirmed it was not intentional, nor criminal under Texas law.
So, not a drone attack after all. Just a tragic oops with thankfully no injuries.
BasePoint Opens Mental Health Clinic in Frisco
Mental health care just got more accessible.
BasePoint, a provider of outpatient treatment for teens and young adults, has opened a new clinic in Frisco, their fourth in Texas.
Founded with a mission rooted in personal loss, the clinic offers therapy, partial hospitalization programs, and intensive outpatient programs.
Their goal? Move Texas from last place to top five in mental health access by 2030. Big shoes, big hearts.
