The Friday Recap for Frisco
Howdy, Frisco! Happy Friday, and happy almost-Fourth!
If your neighborhood already sounds like a war reenactment thanks to That One Guy who can't wait two more days for legal fireworks, you are not alone. This week we swore in a new mayor (sort of, Tuesday, technically), sent a Roughrider to the hospital, lost a bakery shaped hole in our hearts (soon to be filled), and are bracing for a weekend so packed with fireworks, food trucks, and dachshunds in tiny capes that you may need a nap before it even starts.
Grab your sunscreen, your lawn chair, and possibly a second lawn chair because the first one always breaks, let's get into it.

Frisco Swears In New Mayor After Nationally Watched Election
Frisco's new mayor, Mark Hill, gets sworn in this Tuesday after a city election that somehow became national news. What's usually a sleepy, nonpartisan race about traffic and growth turned into a heated debate over immigration, religion, and how far campaign rhetoric should go, after Hill's runoff opponent, Rod Vilhauer, drew criticism for anti Islamic remarks and comparisons of immigrants.
The runoff shattered local turnout records, nearly 34,000 voters cast ballots, about a quarter of registered voters, compared to Frisco's usual sub-15% local turnout. Hill, a lawyer and former FISD trustee, campaigned under the slogan "Unite Frisco" and thanked Muslim and Indian voters by name in his victory speech, saying the city "will certainly need to heal." Reaction split along familiar lines nationally, with some Republicans calling it a wake-up call on tone and others blaming low Christian voter turnout.

🚔 Juveniles Identified in Frisco Athletic Center Robbery
Frisco Police say they've identified the juveniles involved in a June 29 armed robbery in the Frisco Athletic Center parking lot.
Officers responded around 8 p.m. to a robbery involving a firearm, believed to follow a prearranged meeting
Suspects fled in a blue and white Ford Bronco, later found abandoned at a nearby fast-food restaurant
The handgun, and the person who had it, were not with the vehicle when found
With help from FISD school resource officers, police confirmed everyone involved is enrolled in the district, all parties will be held accountable
⚾ Roughriders Game Injury Sends Player to Surgery
A scary moment at Riders Field this week: Midland Rockhounds outfielder Ryan Lasko underwent overnight spinal surgery after a violent, head-first collision with a teammate while chasing a fly ball in the third inning.
Lasko, an Athletics system prospect, suffered a fractured C6-C7 vertebra
He underwent decompression and stabilization surgery overnight and is now listed as stable
Both teams gathered for a prayer circle after the game
The A's front office says all resources are being put toward his recovery, long term outlook is still unknown
Sending Ryan all the good vibes Frisco can muster.
🥐 BreadHaus Is Bringing Fresh Baked Everything to Frisco
Good news for anyone whose diet consists mostly of "I'll start eating better after this croissant", BreadHaus, a family owned bakery out of Grapevine, is opening its second ever location right here in Frisco.
Artisan sourdoughs, cookies, bars, pretzels, and more, all baked fresh daily
This marks the brand's first expansion beyond its original Grapevine shop, a sign the bakery is betting on Frisco's growing appetite (literally) for local, small batch options
Known for scratch made dough and rotating seasonal flavors, so expect the menu to shift throughout the year
The Frisco shop will anchor a small retail strip already home to a handful of local businesses, giving the area a bit more of a walkable, grab a coffee and a pastry feel
No word yet on grand opening festivities, but if the Grapevine location is any indication, expect lines out the door the first weekend
1606 FM 423, Ste. 400, Frisco
