The Friday Recap for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco, Happy Friday, y’all!
We made it through another week, though I’ll be honest, Custer Road nearly broke me. Between the construction cones, sudden lane merges, and drivers who seem to have lost all sense of direction, I’m convinced that stretch of road is an unsanctioned obstacle course. But hey, at least the weather’s playing nice, the sun’s out, and the weekend is shaping up beautifully.
Frisco’s got some major updates this week, from new rides at the upcoming Universal Kids Resort to a heated city council meeting that’s got everyone talking. So grab your coffee, dodge the potholes, and let’s get into it.

🎢 Universal Kids Resort Reveals Full Ride Lineup, Opening This May
We’ve been hearing whispers about it for years, but it’s finally becoming real: Universal Kids Resort in Frisco is taking shape, and we’ve got more details on what’s inside the park’s seven themed lands.
DreamWorks’ Shrek’s Swamp: Meet Shrek and Fiona in person and hop aboard Happily Ogre After, a story driven ride through their fairy-tale world.
Jurassic World Adventure Camp: Two rides, sensory friendly gardens, and a baby dinosaur meet and greet. Yes, a baby dino.
Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants Bikini Bottom – Featuring Jellyfish Fields Jamboree, Mrs. Puff’s Boating School, splash pads, and meet and greets with SpongeBob, Patrick, and even Squidward (who will probably still be grumpy).
Illumination’s Minions vs. Minions, Bello Bay Club: Expect chaos. Families can tackle a golf cart derby and boat rides run by rogue purple Minions.
DreamWorks’ TrollsFest: Bright colors, loud music, and two rides full of fun. Meet Poppy, Branch, and their crew at Poppy’s Playland and Critter Crawl.
DreamWorks’ Puss in Boots Del Mar: Think Spanish coastal village meets carnival. Ride Swings Over Del Mar, and see puppet shows.
Isle of Curiosity: Inspired by Gabby’s Dollhouse, this entry land has no rides, just plenty of hands on play, meet and greets, and themed food spots.
The 32 acre park opens May 2026, and it’s shaping up to be a dream come true for families (and adults who still quote Shrek).

🗣️ Frisco Residents Clash Over H-1B Visas and Immigration
This week’s Frisco City Council meeting drew one of the largest crowds in recent memory, and it wasn’t about zoning or traffic for once. The discussion was about H-1B visas and what some online critics called an “Indian takeover.”
Residents packed the George A. Purefoy Municipal Center to voice opinions — some calling for visa reform, others defending Frisco’s diverse and fast-growing community.
The debate follows Attorney General Ken Paxton’s new investigation into H-1B visa fraud in North Texas.
Frisco’s Asian population has grown from 2.3% in 2000 to 33.6% today, and more than 40% of FISD students are Asian, according to state data.
Council member Burt Thakur, Frisco’s first Indian-American council member, added:
“We’re all Americans, we just got here on different flights.”
It was a tense meeting to say the least.
📚 Frisco Public Library Sees Record Growth in 2025
The numbers are in, and our beloved Public Library is crushing it. Since reopening its 150,000 square foot space in 2023, it’s hit over 1 million visitors in a single year, up from a pre-move record of 650,000.
Here’s what’s new:
Total library transactions: Up 7% in December 2025.
Active memberships: 163,292 (a 6% jump from 2024).
And if you missed the Noon Year’s Eve Party in December, 400 people showed up to ring in the new year at noon sharp. Frisco’s love of books (and early bedtimes) remains unmatched.
🅿️ City Approves $38 Million Kaleidoscope Park Mega Garage
If you’ve been circling Kaleidoscope Park like a shark looking for parking like me….good news. The city just approved a $38 million, 1,100 space parking garage near the park, with a 12 story office tower on top.
Funded partly by the Frisco Economic Development Corp. and a tax increment reinvestment zone, it’ll replace the old two story garage.
Construction starts this year, with a 2028 completion target.
The park’s also getting a new outdoor video screen, stage, and water feature as part of a $14 million expansion.
Translation: bigger crowds, better shows, and hopefully no more “sorry, full lot” signs by 5 PM.
