The Friday Recap for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco.
Well….buckle up, y’all. The sun’s clocking out, the cold’s clocking in, and by the time you’re reading this, North Texas is bracing for what could be our iciest weekend in years. I know we all say we want snow until we realize it means scraping windshields, sliding down Independence Parkway, and panic-buying the last loaf of bread at H-E-B.
So before I get into the local scoop, make sure your pipes are wrapped, your phone’s charged, and you’ve got enough snacks to survive a short Texas-style snowpocalypse. Stay safe, stay warm, and maybe enjoy an excuse to hibernate guilt free this weekend.
Here’s what’s going on around town before the mess.
*Also apologies for having my dates wrong in the weather section on Wednesday for those that noticed.

🌨️ Extreme Cold Watch: Wind Chills Could Hit -6°
North Texas is officially under both a Winter Storm Watch and an Extreme Cold Watch through Sunday, with forecasts calling for 2–5 inches of snow and sleet across the DFW area.
Wind chills could drop to -6°F by early Sunday
Temps may not climb above freezing until Monday afternoon
Ice could accumulate on trees and power lines, meaning potential outages
Some school districts have already canceled weekend events ahead of the storm
For Frisco residents, sleet is expected to start late Friday night, turning to snow by Saturday morning. Roads will likely be slick until Monda, so unless you’re a penguin, stay home if you can.
Enjoy your mild Friday afternoon, because once that arctic blast rolls in, we’re all living in Elsa’s world until next week.
Ice Accumulation & Falling Limbs Can Cause Sudden Roof Damage
With freezing weather expected this weekend, heavy ice can snap tree limbs and damage roofs unexpectedly.
Helpful tips before the storm:
Park vehicles away from large trees
Bring in or secure outdoor furniture
Keep attic access clear in case leaks appear
If your home is impacted, C2 Roofing provides emergency roof repairs and temporary tarping to stop water intrusion and protect your home until permanent repairs can be made.

🏙️ Frisco Retail Development Delayed After Signage Slip-Up
A planned retail project at Main Street and Independence Parkway is hitting the pause button. Not because of controversy or construction… but because someone printed the wrong case number on the public notice signs.
You can’t make this up.
A few highlights:
The development aims to be pedestrian friendly and cohesive with Harold Bacchus Park
Eight residents spoke against the project citing traffic and safety concerns
The applicant must now repost correct signs and meet with residents before the next vote
Honestly, it’s a classic case of “measure twice, print once.”
🚓 Frisco Police Taking Flight with 6 New Drones
Frisco PD is about to go high tech. This May, the department will launch six autonomous “Drones as First Responders” (DFR), making Frisco one of the first cities in Collin and Denton counties to use the tech.
Each drone can launch within 90 seconds and cover a 3.5-mile radius
They’ll provide real time video before officers even arrive on scene
Funded by a $427,500 grant, with Frisco matching $39,660
Privacy note: drones only record when responding to an active call, no random patrolling….hopefully
Frisco’s move follows Prosper’s successful program, which cut response times by over 70%. So if you see something buzzing overhead later this year, don’t panic, it’s probably helping, not spying.
👏 Frisco Deputy City Manager Henry Hill Retires After 23 Years
A Frisco legend is hanging up his hat. After more than two decades of helping guide Frisco’s explosive growth, Deputy City Manager Henry Hill was honored this week as he officially retired.
Hill joined Frisco in 2003, when the city’s population was just 50,000
Harvard grad + 40 years in public service
Recipient of the ICMA Leadership Award in 2018
Described by Mayor Jeff Cheney as “a quiet, brilliant leader who never sought the spotlight.”
Hill’s impact on Frisco runs deep. Enjoy your well earned rest, Henry, you’ve more than earned it.

A quick, heartfelt note before the weekend:
With ice and snow looking very likely, your safety matters more than any event on this list. While we do have a few events lined up, it’s honestly okay to sit this weekend out. Roads, sidewalks, and parking lots can turn risky fast, and no outing is worth an accident or stress. Stay home if you can, stay warm, check on loved ones, and please take care of yourself first. Some or all of these events may also be cancelled by hosts so please double check before leaving your house.
