The Friday Recap for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco.

Anyone else fighting the Great Sniffle Season of 2025? Between the chilly mornings, warm afternoons, and mystery allergens doing their annual Texas two-step, I’ve been living off tea and tissues all week. So if you’re out and about this weekend, maybe at a movie night, a Cowboys show, or just braving The Star, bring a jacket and a pocket pack of Kleenex.

Now, let’s get into your Friday rundown, from an H-E-B expansion that’ll make your grocery runs smoother to a new city rule that’s about to shake up smoke shops. Plus, a packed weekend lineup of holiday fun, football, and maybe even a little crawfish.

🛒 H-E-B Building a 51,000 Sq. Ft. Electronic Fulfillment Center in Frisco

H-E-B is doubling down on its North Texas empire with plans for a 51,599 square-foot eCommerce fulfillment center right here in Frisco at FM 423 and US 380.

  • Estimated cost: $14.4 million

  • Construction: Begins July 2026, wraps June 2027

These centers aren’t your typical stores, they’re like H-E-B’s behind the scenes magic shops where online curbside and delivery orders get filled. The tech forward facility will use automation to keep aisles less crowded, boost delivery speed, and make sure that “substituted item” problem becomes a thing of the past.

Managing Director Mabrie Jackson says will help “serve more Texans with curbside and delivery offerings.” Translation: your grocery runs just got faster, and your weekends, a little freer.

An exciting announcement

Frisco Insider started as a simple idea: keep neighbors informed, connected, and proud of the city we share. Every week, thousands of you open this email to see what’s happening around Frisco, support local businesses, and stay in the loop without the noise. Keeping this newsletter free and consistent takes real time, effort, and care, and I want to be transparent about that. If Frisco Insider has ever helped you discover an event, feel more connected to the city, or simply feel a little more “in the know,” your support truly helps keep this community-first work going.

For those who want to support Frisco Insider a step further, I’ve created Insider+. It’s not about extras, it’s about sustaining something we all value.
Insider+ members receive:

🚓 Ex-NFL Player Myles Jack Arrested in Frisco After Early Morning Incident

Frisco Police confirmed that former NFL linebacker Myles Jack is facing felony firearm charges after a welfare check turned chaotic Tuesday morning.

Officers responded to a home on Haft River Road around 5:40 a.m., where they reportedly heard gunshots from inside. Minutes later, Jack allegedly broke a second story window and fell while trying to exit, sustaining minor injuries before being taken into custody.

Police evacuated nearby homes and said no one else was found inside. Jack, 30, faces charges of deadly conduct and discharge of a firearm.

Jack played eight NFL seasons, most notably with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and was once considered one of the top linebackers in the country. Authorities say he’s recovering and the case remains under investigation.

🚭 Smoke Shop Regulations Moving Forward in Frisco

If you’ve noticed smoke shops popping up faster than Starbucks drive-thrus lately, Frisco’s on it. The city’s Planning and Zoning Commission has officially recommended tighter regulations to limit where these stores can operate.

Under the new proposal, smoke shops can’t open within 1,000 feet of:

  • Homes

  • Schools

  • Churches

  • Hospitals

  • Daycare centers

  • Or other smoke shops

Frisco currently has 41 existing stores that would fall under “nonconforming” status, meaning they can stay open but won’t be allowed to expand or rebuild.

City Council will review the ordinance in early 2026, but for now, the message is clear: Frisco’s keeping the smoke where it belongs, on BBQ, not every street corner.
