The Monday Scoop for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco.

Can we talk about how it was 75° last week and then all of a sudden it’s 32° at night??

I stepped outside last night thinking “light jacket weather” and immediately started shivering like I’d just moved here from Miami. Texas said, “Oh, you thought spring?”

Anyway. Grab your coffee, turn the heater back on, and let’s catch up on what’s happening in the fastest-growing, coldest feeling (for now) city in North Texas.

🗣️ Frisco City Council Considers New Rules for Public Input

Frisco City Council is exploring possible changes to how public comments work at meetings, after a tense Feb. 3 meeting where 23 speakers addressed perceived demographic changes in the city. Some of the speakers were not Frisco residents.

Currently:

  • Anyone can submit a speaker card at any point during the meeting.

  • Speakers get up to 5 minutes

  • The city allows public comment on both agenda and nonagenda items

Now, council members are considering possible changes such as:

  • Separating agenda vs. nonagenda comment periods

  • Moving nonagenda comments to the end of meetings

  • Limiting time per speaker on nonagenda items

  • Requiring ID for speaker cards

  • Setting submission deadlines

  • Using an electronic sign-up system

  • Even adjusting the lectern position so audience members aren’t visible on livestream

Mayor Jeff Cheney noted that previous flare-ups eventually faded, but council now believes this may not be a one-time issue.

No decisions yet. City attorneys are compiling options, and any ordinance change would require a formal vote at a future meeting.

This is one of those “how do we balance openness with order?” moments in local government.

A better option for your kids

"They’re doing fine." In a traditional classroom of 25, that is often where the conversation ends. Your child follows the rules, hits the benchmarks, and blends into the background, so no one ever feels the need to reach out.

But for a parent, "fine" can feel like a red flag. It leaves you wondering if they are actually being challenged, if there are hidden gaps in their learning, or if they are simply sitting and waiting for the rest of the class to catch up.

At The Grove at Hearth, we don’t believe in making students wait. We have replaced the crowded classroom model with intentional, small groups of just 6 to 10 students. This helps us ensure your child masters math, reading, and language arts before moving forward, so there are no gaps or guesswork.

Instead of blending in, our students are encouraged to lead, to present, and to be fully seen for the individuals they are.

We are a Frisco microschool serving 1st through 6th graders, and we are looking for families who want to be true partners in their child’s education for the 2026-2027 school year. Let’s see if we’re the right fit for your family.

Frisco Insider families who schedule a discovery call will receive a complimentary Personalized Learning Roadmap, showing you exactly how we will meet your child’s unique needs and fuel their potential.

📖 Heritage Association Plans “Second Century” Book

Frisco’s growth over the past 25 years is about to get its own hardcover spotlight.

The Heritage Association of Frisco is working on a new book titled:
“Frisco: Second Century – The Boom Years, 2002–2027.”

This follows the city’s earlier historical publications and aims to document:

  • Major bond elections in 2002 and 2006

  • Construction of City Hall, libraries, police & fire stations

  • The arrival of the RoughRiders, Dallas Stars, FC Dallas

  • The development of The Star and PGA

  • Frisco’s explosive growth from 33,000 residents to nearly 250,000

The 125th anniversary is coming up on February 7, 2027, and this book will serve as the next chapter in Frisco’s story.

If you’ve ever said, “I remember when this was just a field,” congratulations, you’re now historical context.

🏐 Major League Volleyball Championship Coming to Frisco

Big sports news: The 2026 MLV Championship is coming to Comerica Center in early May.

  • “Match for a Million” on May 10

Comerica Center already hosts 250,000+ guests annually across 120+ events, and after the buzz from the Dallas Pulse’s inaugural season, league officials said North Texas was an easy choice.
