The Wednesday Loop for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco.

Happy Wednesday 🍂

Can we all agree that the mornings have finally started feeling kinda cool again? That crisp 60° air is the closest thing we’ve had to “fall” all year. It’s that magical window where you can drink coffee outside without sweating and still need sunglasses by noon.

Whether you’re bundling up for school drop-off, sneaking a Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew before work, or trying to remember where you last saw your hoodie (hint: probably in the backseat), this week’s got plenty happening, from football tortillas to space lawsuits, and state fair crowds dropping.

Let’s dive in before this cool front changes its mind.

Texas Edition

Texas Tech Bans Tortilla-Tossing Tradition 🌮

The beloved (and slightly chaotic) Texas Tech tortilla toss is officially toast. The university announced this week that fans can no longer throw tortillas during football kickoffs, a move meant to avoid massive Big 12 penalties and $100K fines.

The decades old tradition dates back to the ‘90s, where fans launched tortillas sky high as the Red Raiders kicked off at home games. But after repeated penalties, including two in one game versus Kansas, officials said “no más.”

Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt admitted he once encouraged the practice but said it’s time to “protect the team’s championship run.” Fans caught throwing tortillas could now lose their season ticket privileges. Harsh? Maybe. But hey, it’s hard to win a playoff spot when your offense starts every drive 15 yards back.

Cards Against Humanity Settles Lawsuit with SpaceX 🚀

After a year of legal back and forth, Cards Against Humanity has settled its lawsuit with Elon Musk’s SpaceX over alleged trespassing on the game company’s land in South Texas.

The card company claimed SpaceX treated its property like a backyard construction zone, dumping gravel and equipment without permission. SpaceX reportedly admitted to trespassing during discovery (yikes), and the two sides reached a confidential settlement.

The upside? SpaceX cleaned up its mess, and Cards Against Humanity says they’ll restore the land to its natural state. Somewhere out there, 150,000 fans who donated $15 for that land are waiting on their “probably $2” refund.

State Fair Attendance Drops by 400,000 🎡

This year’s State Fair of Texas wrapped up with fewer corny dogs and fewer crowds, about 2 million attendees, down 400,000 from last year. Officials say affordability played a big role, as many families skipped the fair due to rising costs.

While no major safety incidents were reported (a big win), social media buzzed with complaints about high prices for food and games. Still, the fair saw record crowds on Red River Rivalry day and gave out an impressive 400,000 prizes worth $1.6 million.

Fair officials say the dip is temporary, pointing to global economic trends and family budgets. So, maybe next year Big Tex will wave at a smaller crowd, but the fried butter will still be $14.

Texas Becoming America’s Next Mining Powerhouse ⛏️

Forget oil, Texas is striking lithium. From East Texas to the Gulf Coast, a new generation of companies is racing to mine rare minerals like lithium, samarium, and dysprosium, the stuff that powers electric cars, wind turbines, and defense tech.

Major players like Chevron, Halliburton, and Tesla are already investing in lithium extraction projects across the state. The U.S. government is throwing billions in funding to reduce reliance on China, and East Texas is being called “the new frontier for American minerals.”

Of course, there’s concern about environmental impact and water use, but many see it as the next great Texas boom. The same land that fueled the oil rush might soon power your Tesla….or your phone battery.

Riddle of the Week 🤔

How many sunny days does Frisco get on average each year?

A) 180
B) 200
C) 230
D) 260

(Answer at the bottom)

That’s your Wednesday fix, Frisco! Whether you’re prepping your costumes, hunting for lithium (kidding, kinda), or planning a tortilla-free tailgate, enjoy the chill mornings while they last. They’ll be gone faster than Blue Bell in July.

Catch y’all Friday! 🌞

Hamza Sohail | Frisco Insider | Oct 22, 2025

Riddle Answer: C) 230 — That’s right! Frisco shines bright roughly 230 days a year. SPF isn’t a suggestion….it’s a survival tool.
