The Friday Recap for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco. Happy Friday
Well….we survived fake winter. Now it’s 91 degrees.
Only in Texas can you go from wind chills to sunscreen in five business days. Hydrate. Stretch. Mentally prepare for summer pretending it’s already here.
We’ve got Hollywood street closures, City Council free speech debates, a major animal shelter proposal, free coffee next week, and honestly one of the most fun event weekends we’ve had in a while.
Let’s roll.

🎥 Taylor Sheridan’s “Frisco King” Filming in North Texas, Road Closures Ahead
Hollywood is officially setting up shop in North Texas.
Taylor Sheridan’s new Paramount+ series “Frisco King”, starring Samuel L. Jackson, begins filming this week in downtown Fort Worth.
The show is a spinoff of Tulsa King, with Jackson playing Russell Lee Washington Jr., a hitman who crossed paths with Sylvester Stallone’s character.
Filming Location:
Tarrant County Courthouse (Downtown Fort Worth)
Road Closures (none in Frisco):
Thursday & Friday (March 19–20)
5:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Closures include:
Weatherford St. (Houston to Commerce)
Main St. (East to West Weatherford)
Portions of Belknap, Houston, Commerce & Calhoun
Police will direct traffic, and local access remains available.
No release date yet. Eight episodes. Sheridan writing all of them.
North Texas just became prime time television again.

🏛️ Frisco Council Debates Changes to Public Comment
Frisco City Council spent part of this week debating potential changes to public comment rules, and it got heated.
Proposed changes included:
Reducing speaker time from 5 minutes to 3 minutes
Requiring online sign-ups instead of paper cards
Possibly moving non agenda speakers to later in meetings
Why the debate?
Recent meetings included:
Non-residents speaking on H-1B visa concerns
“Indian takeover” rhetoric
Disruptive or inappropriate commentary unrelated to agenda items
Some council members argue:
Shorter times = more efficiency
Online registration = better organization
Others argue:
Reducing time could discourage participation
Public input should not be rushed
Free speech concerns matter
The council tabled any vote until April 7.
Bottom line: Democracy is messy. And Frisco is currently working through how messy it should be. I covered a segment of this story a couple weeks ago, but this is a slight update.
🐶 Frisco Reviews $12.8M Public Private Animal Facility
Frisco is moving closer to building its own animal services facility, a public-private partnership estimated at $12.8 million.
Proposed Site:
Preston Road & PGA Parkway
Proposed features:
22,500 sq. ft. one story facility
Full service veterinary clinic
Adoption & foster programs
20 dog enclosures
18 cat enclosures
5 flexible exotic animal spaces
24 hour care dorm
Community education spaces
The facility would serve as a holding center before animals move to the Collin County shelter in McKinney.
Current average holding period: 18 days
Minimum planned hold at Frisco facility: 5 days
Council members raised concerns about:
Data used for capacity projections
Fiscal responsibility
Long term agreement with Collin County
Construction could begin in 2028 if finalized.
More discussion coming next month.
