The Wednesday Fill for Frisco

Howdy Frisco
Happy Wednesday, y’all. If you’re still recovering from daylight saving time, just know that we all are. I don’t know who decided it was a great idea to steal an hour of sleep from us, but I have some strong words for them. (It’s probably the same person responsible for NTTA’s never-ending roadwork.)

Anyway, big things happening in Frisco, we’ve got a police-involved shooting that’s raising questions, a middle school that may or may not be closing, a restaurant with treehouses (yes, really), and a library that’s busier than a Chick-fil-A drive-thru. Let’s get into it.

Frisco Police Shoot & Kill Man Wanted for Felony Warrant

Things are getting tense after Frisco PD shot and killed 43-year-old Gregory Sheppard while trying to serve felony warrants last Thursday.

What happened:
📍 Where? A gated community on Travis Drive
🚓 Why were police there? To arrest Sheppard & 32-year-old Kara Carper for aggravated assault
🔫 What went down? Police say Sheppard pointed a gun at them, and an officer shot him.

Sheppard’s family is still demanding answers, though. They’re questioning why it took four days for Frisco PD to confirm he was dead and why there’s been so little transparency about what exactly happened. How many times was he shot? What led to the original felony charges? Were other options available?

The Texas Rangers are now investigating, so hopefully, we get more details soon. Meanwhile, Carper posted a $100K bond and is out of jail.

Staley Middle School’s Future Is Up in the Air

If you’ve got kids at Staley Middle School, things are looking uncertain. The school is one of the oldest in Frisco, and some parents say it’s been historically underfunded and overlooked.

A $986 million bond that would’ve funded a new Staley Middle School got rejected by voters last year. Now, FISD is considering what to do next, and parents aren’t happy.

📢 PTA President Jeanette Alexander: “A long-term closure is really a denial of opportunities for these kids.”

Parents are also worried about breaking up student groups, especially for kids who rely on the school for ESL support, special education, or free meals. The district is presenting its plans soon, so stay tuned.

Stix Icehouse Bringing a Treehouse Restaurant to Frisco

Okay, this one’s fun: Stix Icehouse: a restaurant, bar, and playground-for-grownups in McKinney, is opening a Frisco location!

📍 Where? Cotton Gin Rd. & Dallas Parkway
🌳 What’s special? Treehouses, disc golf, ping pong, a wiffle ball field, and lots of open space
🚧 When? Expected late 2026

Honestly, a restaurant with treehouses and cornhole? Frisco is really out here making my childhood dreams come true. Imagine grabbing a burger and then heading to a wiffle ball game? This is the kind of high-quality entertainment we deserve.

Also, fun fact: The area has some massive pecan trees that Frisco refused to cut down. Respect. 🌳

Prepare for Roadwork Delays (Again, Sorry)

More lane closures are here till March 15, so expect the usual frustration:

🚗 Teel Pkwy. northbound lane closures
🚦 Warren Pkwy. & Preston Rd. intersection work (Ongoing)
🚧 Coit Rd. & SH 121 intersection work (Almost done—fingers crossed 🤞)

If you find yourself stuck in traffic, just take a deep breath and remember: one day, all this roadwork will be worth it. Probably.

Frisco Library Hits 2.25 MILLION Visits!

Our beloved Frisco Public Library is celebrating two years in its massive new space on Dallas Parkway, and y’all have been busy reading!

📖 6.8 million books checked out
📅 84,000 meeting room reservations
🚗 270 new parking spaces added (finally)

Assistant Library Director Mayra Diaz summed it up: “We’re that popular.” And honestly, she’s not wrong. This library is basically the Beyoncé of libraries.
