The Friday Recap for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco!

Happy Friday! You made it through another week of mystery allergens, mysterious school pickups, and probably one too many trips to H-E-B. Whether you're staying in or hitting the scene, I’ve got your local news fix, event line-up, and a weather report that's equal parts sunshine and unpredictability.

Frisco Elementary Hit by “Unspecified Projectile” — Classes Canceled

Yep, that’s a real headline. On Thursday, a “projectile” entered Pete and Gracie Hosp Elementary, causing an immediate response from Frisco Police and early dismissal for all students.

📍 Location: Lone Star Ranch Parkway
🚔 Police say it came from the exterior
👧 No injuries were reported — thank goodness
🎒 Students were sent home out of "an abundance of caution"

Right now, we still don’t know what the object was (rock? bullet? rogue drone??). But what we do know is that Frisco PD is actively investigating, and multiple officers were seen at the school. As parents waited anxiously, officials reassured the community that safety remains a top priority. Stay tuned for updates.

Toyota Stadium Is Getting a $182 Million Makeover

Big changes are coming to Toyota Stadium, and FC Dallas isn’t holding back. The club, alongside the City of Frisco and Moss Construction, just broke ground on a multi-year renovation that will completely reimagine the fan experience.

👷 First phase: East side of the stadium
🌟 New features coming:

  • A massive video board (biggest in any MLS-specific stadium)

  • State-of-the-art club suites

  • Expanded concessions and bathrooms

  • A canopy for shade (finally!)

  • More seating across the board

Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney called the stadium “the epicenter of growth” and said this renovation is about preparing for the next 100 years of soccer in North Texas. FC Dallas President Dan Hunt even called it the “finest small soccer stadium in the world.” Bold, but hey, it’s Texas.

And yes, games will still go on during construction. So pack your jersey, patience, and maybe a hard hat (just kidding… probably).

FISD’s “Access Frisco” Plan to Open Schools & Bring in $3M

With enrollment slowing and budgets tightening, Frisco ISD is opening its doors to out-of-district students for the first time ever—thanks to the new Access Frisco program.

🎒 Starts Fall 2025 for grades K–7
📬 646 applications already in, with 300+ accepted
💸 Expected to generate $3 million in new revenue

Why it matters:
Frisco ISD is facing a projected loss of 1,100 students next year. Rising costs and fewer kindergarteners mean less funding from the state. Access Frisco helps fill empty classroom seats without hiring new staff.

📝 The catch? Students must reapply yearly and meet standards for attendance, behavior, and academics. No transportation provided.

This is part of a larger strategy to keep programs running strong despite a projected $17 million funding shortfall in 2025–26. Officials say if it works well, they'll expand enrollment to grades 8–12 the following year.
