The Monday Scoop for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco.
Can we talk about this weather for a second? It’s like Texas can’t pick a season. It’s been gorgeous in the afternoons, the kind that make you want to walk The Star or grab a patio coffee, and then by sunset, it’s straight up “where’s my blanket?” energy.
But while we’ve been toggling between flip flops and fuzzy socks, Frisco’s been busy. There’s political drama brewing ahead of the special election, another business closure, and, surprise, surprise…another national ranking reminding us that this city might actually be too good at winning. Let’s dig in.

🗳️ Frisco City Council Race Heats Up Before Jan. 31 Election
The gloves are off in the race for Frisco City Council Place 1, and things got spicy at last week’s candidate forum.
With John Keating stepping down to run for mayor, two candidates are vying to fill his seat:
Ann Anderson, an insurance professional
Mark Piland, Frisco’s former fire chief
The two mostly agreed on things like public safety and tourism growth, but clashed on the AT&T headquarters relocation (which went to Plano) and Piland’s controversial departure from the Fire Department in 2022.
Key moments from the debate:
Anderson said Plano’s AT&T win is “good for the region” and predicted many of those new workers will move to Frisco anyway.
Piland disagreed sharply
Things turned personal when Anderson questioned Piland’s past, citing a report that said he directed staff to alter department response times.
Both candidates also addressed Frisco’s Rail District redevelopment, with Piland criticizing the city for not doing enough to protect small businesses during construction. Anderson focused on “moving forward now that Main Street is complete.”
Early voting runs through Jan. 27, with Election Day on Jan. 31. Grab your ID, Frisco, your voice matters in shaping the city’s future.
💼 Frisco and McKinney Ranked Among Nation’s Best Small Cities for Careers
Frisco and McKinney just ranked among America’s best small cities for professional growth.
Frisco landed at No. 11, while McKinney came in at No. 20 in a new national study of nearly 300 small cities.
Here’s why Frisco stands out:
Median household income: $145,444 (22nd in the nation)
Most affordable rent ratio in the U.S. for a city its size, rent averages only 22.7% of income.
Basically, Frisco’s economy is thriving, and we still have reasonable rent (for now). So if you’re one of those people who moved here for “a few years,” I’ve got bad news…you’re probably never leaving.
☕ Mochas & Javas to Close Its Frisco Location Jan. 24
Say it ain’t so, another coffee shop is closing its doors.
Mochas & Javas, located at 11660 Legacy Dr., Suite 1996, announced it will close on January 24.
The Texas based chain, known for its cozy atmosphere, java chinos, and baked goods, didn’t specify a reason for the closure. But locals are already mourning the loss of their weekend latte spot.
If you’re a regular, make one last coffee run this week. Maybe grab an extra cinnamon roll for the road, they’ll be missed.
🏡 Frisco Real Estate: 181 Homes Sold in December
It’s been a steady winter for Frisco’s housing market.
In December 2025, 181 homes sold, slightly down from 193 the year before.
Most homes fell in the $400K–$700K range, with prices holding strong despite slower winter activity.
The dip in sales reflects a broader cooling across North Texas, but demand remains high thanks to new jobs and steady population growth.
If you’re house hunting right now, expect slightly more leverage, but don’t wait too long. Spring bidding wars are right around the corner.
