The Wednesday Fill for Frisco
Howdy, Frisco!
Happy Wednesday, y’all! We’ve had quite the windy weather lately, and I’ve got the latest scoop on everything happening around town. From a Frisco charity getting national attention to why your tap water might smell funny, there’s a lot to cover today. Grab a coffee, kick back, and let’s dive in!
In today’s edition:
Frisco nonprofit gets the Kelly Clarkson Show spotlight 🎤
If your tap water smells off, don’t panic 🚰
Frisco PD making changes after officers entered the wrong apartment 🚔
Zipline drone delivery coming to Walmart 🤖
Early morning storms cause power outages ⚡
Events & weather so you’re never caught off guard 🌞
Frisco Nonprofit Hits the Big Time on The Kelly Clarkson Show
One of our own, Refresh, is about to get a national shoutout! This amazing Frisco-based nonprofit provides customized hygiene kits to kids in need, and they’re hoping their upcoming appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show will inspire even more people to get involved. If you haven’t heard of them, now’s the time to check them out and see how you can help!
If Your Tap Water Smells a Bit Off, It’s Totally Normal
Noticed your water tasting a little… different lately? No, Frisco isn’t being invaded by funky water gremlins. The North Texas Municipal Water District is doing its annual maintenance, which means they’re temporarily removing ammonia from the water treatment process. Some folks might notice a stronger chlorine smell, but don’t worry, it’s still safe to drink! If it’s bugging you, just refrigerate some water overnight or toss in a crushed vitamin C tablet to help neutralize the taste. The change lasts through the end of March, so hang tight!
Frisco PD to Make Changes After Officers Entered Wrong Apartment
Talk about a nightmare situation, imagine police forcing their way into your home when you’ve done absolutely nothing wrong. That’s exactly what happened to Elvin Turner and his mom back in January, when Frisco officers mistakenly entered their apartment looking for a domestic disturbance victim. The real issue? The actual victim was on a different floor.
After a review, Frisco PD says they’re making procedural changes to avoid incidents like this in the future. Moving forward, any time officers force entry into a home, it will be flagged for an automatic review. It’s a start, but I imagine Turner and his family still have plenty of questions.
Drone Deliveries Coming to Walmart on Richland Blvd
Ever wished your Walmart order could just fall from the sky? Well, good news, Zipline, the world’s largest autonomous delivery service, is setting up shop at Walmart in Prosper this fall! By September, they’ll have a full-blown drone delivery system in place, making it possible to have packages literally drop onto your doorstep (or patio table). Science fiction? Nope, just 2025 in Texas.
Early Morning Storms Cause Power Outages Across North Texas
If you woke up to some wild weather Tuesday morning, you weren’t alone. Powerful storms rolled through before 7 AM, knocking out power in parts of Frisco. Three FISD schools, Rogers Elementary, Staley Middle, and Memorial High had to close for the day due to outages. Stay weather-aware, folks, spring storm season is just getting started!
