Frisco Insider - Dog Robbery + Tennis + More

The Monday Scoop for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco.

Well, the Seahawks are Super Bowl champs, and….let’s just say it wasn’t exactly the most pulse pounding game we’ve ever watched. I’ve seen traffic move faster on Preston Road during rush hour. Still, the wings were good, the commercials were weird, and the halftime show gave everyone something to argue about, so I’ll call that a win.

Meanwhile here in Frisco, tennis is taking over The Star, the economy’s booming, and police solved a burglary using, wait for it……a spotted dog. Only in Texas, folks. Let’s get into this week’s top stories and events.

🎾 Dallas Open Takes Over The Star, Brings Big Economic Boom

The 2026 Dallas Open is in full swing at The Star in Frisco, and it’s not just serving aces on the court, it’s serving major dollars to our local economy.

Now part of the ATP 500 series, organizers say it’s turning Frisco into a global tennis hotspot.

  • Moved from SMU to The Star in 2025, giving fans more seats and luxury experiences.

  • Over 62,000 fans attended last year, packing hotels, restaurants, and shops.

  • Nexo signed on as title sponsor, helping fund local tennis court renovations.

For young players like Olivia Deitch, the event is more than just fun, it’s motivation.

Between the tennis legends, local buzz, and full hotels, this tournament is another slam dunk (wrong sport, but you get it) for Frisco’s growing sports tourism empire.

🐾 Dog’s Unique Spots Help Police Crack Burglary Case

Some people leave fingerprints. This guy’s dog left paw prints, with style.

Frisco PD just solved a repeat burglary at La Finca Coffee and Bakery after officers spotted a dog with distinct markings that matched security footage from the crime scene.

  • Officer Matthew Bell recognized the dog while on patrol on Jan. 18.

  • The pup’s unique spots matched footage from the bakery break-in.

  • The lead helped detectives locate the owner, who confessed to the burglaries.

Police didn’t release the suspect’s name or what happened to the dog, but they praised the teamwork.

Moral of the story? Don’t commit crimes, and definitely don’t bring your easily recognizable dog.

💼 Frisco EDC Reports $500M in New Investments in 2025

The numbers are in, and they’re massive. The Frisco Economic Development Corporation (EDC) just reported over $500 million in new business investments for 2025, solidifying Frisco as one of the most business friendly cities in Texas.

  • 14 new or expanded corporate offices last year (9 without incentives).

  • 3,100 jobs created or retained across Frisco.

  • A 3.44x return for every dollar the EDC has ever invested.

From Toyota and Deloitte expansions to a new 18,000 sq. ft. SoFi office, Frisco’s growth doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. And with 10 new mixed use developments in the works, that skyline’s only going up from here.

🚧 Weekly Roadwork Roundup

If you were hoping the roads would magically fix themselves this week…sorry, not yet. Here’s what’s up:

New pavement replacement:

  • 1200 Crockett Dr.

  • 11629 Cody Ln.

Ongoing pavement replacement:

  • Boulder Way at Moraine Dr.

  • Kings Ride at Quest Dr.

Ongoing utility projects:

  • Kings Ridge Rd. between Castle Dr. & Camelot Dr.

Two weeks to completion (weather permitting)… but let’s be honest, that’s optimistic.
