The Monday Scoop for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco.

I hope your weekend was equal parts relaxing and productive, and by “productive,” I mean you at least took down one string of Christmas lights or found the remote you lost on New Year’s Eve. As for me, I’m just trying to survive the construction chaos near Eldorado and Frisco Street by the Frisco Gun Club. Whoever planned that detour clearly hates peace, quiet, and functioning brake pads.

Anyway, we’ve got a big week ahead: election updates, education news, and some solid ways to escape your commute rage (like karaoke or golf date night). Let’s dive in.

🤝Something Refreshing for Frisco in 2026

Hey neighbors, I’m excited to officially share that the 2026 Business Directory for our newsletter is live. This wasn’t built as a list of ads, but as a genuine community resource spotlighting the people behind our local businesses, their values, their stories, and why they do what they do. Every entry goes beyond a name and phone number, highlighting things like the owner’s own words, what they specialize in, and how they show up for our city, whether it’s a veteran owned junk removal company that treats every home with respect or a family run jewelry shop that’s been serving Frisco for years.

My goal is simple:

  • Help you support businesses that truly care about Frisco, and help those businesses feel seen, trusted, and connected to the community they serve. Thank you for continuing to build something local, honest, and neighborly with me.

🗳️ Frisco Prepares for Special Election, Here’s What to Know

Frisco voters are heading back to the polls soon for a special election to fill the City Council Place 1 seat, which has been open since John Keating announced his run for mayor last October.

  • Election Day: January 31, 2026

  • Early Voting: January 14–27

  • Voter Registration Deadline: Already passed (Jan. 2)

This election will determine who represents Frisco through May 2027, completing the current term.

The Candidates:

  • Mark Piland, Former Frisco Fire Chief with over 40 years of experience in public safety and government. His platform centers on transparency, accountability, and responsible growth.

  • Ann Anderson, 20-year Frisco resident, civic leader, and small business owner emphasizing smart development, stronger neighborhoods, and citywide inclusivity.

For voters, this race is more than just a seat, it’s about deciding who helps guide Frisco through another explosive phase of growth.

💻 Frisco ISD’s Virtual School Plan Raises Questions

Frisco ISD is launching Frisco Flex, a virtual and hybrid high school program starting in fall 2026, and let’s just say opinions are split like a group project in week two.

Students can:

  • Take 1–3 online courses while enrolled at their home campus.

  • Or go fully virtual as part of a new Frisco Flex High School.

Officials say it’ll help students with health issues, demanding schedules, or advanced coursework. But critics warn that too much screen time could harm academic and social development, especially given what we learned from pandemic-era schooling.

The takeaway: Great idea for a select few. Potential headache if scaled too fast. Expect this to be a test run, not a full revolution in learning (yet).

🚧 Weekly Roadwork Roundup

If it feels like the orange cones are reproducing, you’re not wrong. Here’s what’s cooking on the roads this week (besides your patience):

  • New Pavement Work: 10330 Castle Dr.

  • Ongoing Pavement Replacement: 9804 Prestmont Pl.

  • Utility Projects: Kings Ridge Rd. (Castle Dr. → Camelot Dr.)

Each project should last around two weeks, “weather permitting,” which in Frisco means “expect it to take a month”.

And again, if you’re anywhere near Eldorado and Frisco Street, I’ll be right there with you in the gridlock, united in road rage solidarity.
