Howdy, Frisco.
Happy Wednesday, y’all, halfway through the week and already daydreaming about the weekend (and maybe a second cup of coffee). Whether you’re sneezing your way through this fine fall weather or just trying to figure out how we went from 90° to “where’s my hoodie?” in one week, I’ve got your Texas news roundup, local happenings, and a fun little riddle to test your Frisco trivia chops.
Let’s dive in before H-E-B runs out of pumpkin pie.
If you want to get your business in front of Frisco locals reach out here.

Texas Edition
😷 Texas Sees Highest Whooping Cough Spike in 11 Years
More than 3,500 whooping cough cases have been reported across Texas this year, ten times last year’s total, marking the state’s biggest surge in over a decade. Health officials say declining vaccination rates and fading immunity from older boosters are to blame.
Infants and older adults are most at risk
Doctors urge everyone to get up to date on vaccines
Wash your hands, cover those coughs, and stay home if you’re sick
Experts warn that the holidays, a season of hugs and shared casseroles, could cause another wave. So if Aunt Linda’s coughing through dinner, maybe volunteer for the kids’ table this year.
🌊 Camp Mystic Faces Lawsuits After Tragic Flood
The families of campers and counselors killed in the July 4th Central Texas flood are suing Camp Mystic, accusing the operators of negligence and failing to act when flash flood warnings were issued.
The lawsuit says the camp didn’t evacuate despite flood alerts
Families are seeking damages for wrongful death and emotional distress
Camp officials say the flood was “unprecedented” and are defending their actions
The tragedy claimed 27 lives and has reignited questions about camp safety and flood preparedness in Texas. More lawsuits could follow as investigations continue.
🚗 TxDOT: “Texas Needs More Public Transit” (Wait, What?)
Even TxDOT admits it, Texas can’t keep paving its way out of population growth. A new statewide plan calls for expanded public transportation, especially between major cities and rural areas.
The report highlights the need for rail or bus routes connecting Dallas, Houston & San Antonio
State population projected to grow by 9 million by 2050
Estimated cost: at least $30 billion in upfront capital
It’s a big shift for a state that worships the pickup truck, but as one expert put it, “We can’t pave our way out of the population boom.” Maybe someday, hopping a train from Frisco to Austin won’t sound so far fetched.
🏛️ Gov. Greg Abbott Announces Reelection Bid for 4th Term
Governor Greg Abbott officially launched his reelection campaign for a record fourth term Sunday in Houston.
Abbott enters the race with a hefty $87 million in campaign funds
Says he’ll focus on lowering property taxes and expanding Texas’ economy
Also highlighted Texas’ $2.7 trillion GDP, now the 8th largest in the world
Abbott’s tenure has seen school voucher debates, redistricting battles, and major disaster responses. If reelected, he’d become the longest serving governor in Texas history. Love him or not, the man knows how to stick around longer than Buc-ee’s Beaver Nuggets.
