Frisco Insider - Christmas Eve + More

Howdy, Frisco. šŸŽ„

Merry (almost) Christmas, y’all. We’re officially in the cozy chaos zone, where the house smells like cinnamon, the Wi-Fi can’t handle another Hallmark movie, and someone’s already eaten half the stocking candy. The kids are counting down the hours, the relatives are circling the airport, and North Texas has decided to celebrate Christmas Eve by….breaking heat records.

Yep, Santa might be trading in his sleigh for a convertible this year. But whether you’re wrapping last minute gifts, baking enough cookies to feed an army, or just trying to avoid holiday traffic on Preston, your midweek edition of Frisco Insider has your news, events, and local cheer all tied up with a bow.

Also, apologies for the broken event links last edition, it’s fixed now :)

Let’s unwrap this week together. šŸŽ

ā˜€ļø Record Breaking Warmth Before Christmas

Just when you thought you’d never need shorts in December again….surprise. DFW hit a record 82°F on Tuesday, the second record high this week. The previous record (81°) was set almost 60 years ago.

Expect patchy fog and warm air heading into Christmas Day, with near record highs again by Friday before a cold front finally sweeps in Sunday. So yes, Santa might break a sweat this year, but at least the rest of us can still enjoy backyard barbecues while pretending it’s winter.

āš–ļø Judge Blocks Texas ā€œApp Store Accountability Actā€

A federal judge just blocked the App Store Accountability Act, which was set to take effect on January 1. The law would’ve required Texans to verify their age before downloading or buying anything in an app, with minors needing parental consent.

Critics argued it violated the First Amendment, comparing it to ā€œmaking every bookstore check IDs at the door.ā€ The court agreed, halting the law until a final decision is reached.
For now, your app downloads, and your right to mindlessly scroll, remain safe.

šŸš“ Shooting at Frisco Square Cinemark Leads to Police Chase

Sunday night took a dramatic turn near Frisco Square Cinemark, where police responded to reports of gunfire in the parking lot. Two vehicles were involved, and one driver led officers on a ā€œslow speedā€ chase after refusing to stop.

The situation ended with two arrests, one at the scene and one after a nearby hit and run connected to the same incident. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and police say it appears to be an isolated dispute between the two cars, not a random act.
So yes, Frisco’s theaters remain safe for your holiday movie marathons, but maybe skip the parking lot arguments.

🪶 Indigenous Groups Fight to Protect Rediscovered Coastal Settlement

On the Texas coast near Corpus Christi Bay, Indigenous activists are fighting to preserve an ancient settlement site discovered between oil plants and shipyards. The site, known as Donnel Point, was thought lost decades ago but may hold remnants of Karankawa and Carrizo/Comecrudo villages, some of the earliest known coastal communities in Texas.

The rediscovery has ignited a preservation effort against industrial expansion in the area. Activists are urging the government to revoke construction permits and protect what may be the last untouched Indigenous site on this stretch of coast.
As one activist put it: ā€œEven if the stories were burned or forgotten, the land still remembers.ā€

A chase slow and wild, then a crash nearby,
Two suspects nabbed, but why, oh why?

Wed (Dec 24) – Mostly Sunny | 78° / 61°
Thu (Dec 25) – Partly Cloudy | 78° / 63°
Fri (Dec 26) – Sunny | 83° / 60°
Sat (Dec 27) – Mostly Sunny | 82° / 63°

Translation: It’s Christmas in July… but actually December. Shorts and T-shirts are fair game, but keep the jackets handy, a cold front is on deck for Sunday.

See y’all Friday for the post christmas edition, and remember, even in 80-degree weather, kindness is the best thing you can wrap up and give.

— Hamza Sohail | Frisco Insider | December 24, 2025

Answer: B — Rival cars exchanging fire in the lot. Thankfully, nobody was hurt, but let’s hope future parking lot battles are reserved for who gets the last space, not the last word.
