Frisco Insider - Case Solved + Rain + More

The Wednesday Loop for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco.

Okay….we all expected rain yesterday. We saw it on the forecast. We emotionally prepared. But did we expect it to rain that long? Absolutely not. At one point it felt less like “spring showers” and more like we were slowly converting back into a lake community.

I hope everyone’s doing well, and hope your trash cans didn’t take a field trip down the street. Let’s get into your midweek mix of justice served (24 years later), sandcastles the size of townhomes, armed park drama, and a lineup of events that hopefully convince you to leave the couch.

🚔 Frisco Police Arrest Waxahachie Woman in 24 Year Lake Lewisville Cold Case

After more than two decades, a Frisco cold case has finally cracked open.

Frisco police arrested 55 year old Lisa Honrud of Waxahachie in connection with the 2002 murder of Plano resident Frank Weiss, whose body was found near Lake Lewisville within Frisco city limits. Honrud was married to Weiss at the time of his death.

According to officials, newly developed leads, modern investigative tools, and information from a key witness helped detectives secure the murder warrant. Police Chief David Shilson said investigators have poured “countless hours” into the case over the years.

For 24 years, the Weiss family waited for answers. This arrest marks a major step toward justice, and a reminder that cold cases don’t stay frozen forever.

If you ever wondered whether those old case files just collect dust….apparently not in Frisco.

🏖 Texas SandFest Turns Beach Into Giant Sculpture Gallery

Down in Port Aransas, things got a little more artistic (and sandy).

Texas SandFest, the largest sand sculpting event in the country, took over the beach April 17–19, drawing crowds to see elaborate, multi-story sand creations that looked like they required an engineering degree.

This year’s top honors went to Abe Waterman and Greg Grady for their piece “Pawns,” while solo first place went to Ilya Filimontsev for “Mermaid.”

It’s comforting to know that while some of us struggle to build a basic sandcastle moat, others are out here constructing beachfront masterpieces.

🚨 Armed Teen Stopped at Dallas ‘Senior Skip Day’ Gathering

What was meant to be an unofficial “Senior Skip Day” gathering in Southern Dallas nearly turned serious.

Police say nearly 400 students showed up to Danieldale Park after the event spread on social media. Undercover officers monitoring the area spotted someone carrying a firearm, and Air 1 helicopter tracked the vehicle as it circled the park.

Officers later stopped the car and arrested 17 year old Ziquavious Hughes Bigger. Inside the vehicle, police found multiple firearms, including an AR style pistol with an obscured serial number, along with marijuana. An 18 year old passenger was also charged with marijuana possession.

Because of what police described as a credible threat, officers cleared the park. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Let’s just say…this was not the kind of “skip day” anyone had in mind.

🏛 Houston Faces $110M Ultimatum Over Immigration Policy

Houston is currently in what officials are calling “crisis mode.”

Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued an ultimatum to the city, saying Houston must repay approximately $110 million to the state if it does not reverse a recently passed “sanctuary type” ordinance limiting cooperation with ICE.

Abbott says the city is “in breach of contract” after previously agreeing to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement as part of a public safety funding agreement. If Houston does not repay the funds, the state comptroller could withhold sales tax revenue.

Houston’s mayor has called for a special session to reexamine the policy before the state’s deadline.

Politics aside, $110 million is the kind of number that makes everyone re check their math twice.
