The Wednesday Loop for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco.
Happy Wednesday, neighbors.
We’re halfway through January, which means most of us are 50% done with our resolutions, 80% tired of cold mornings, and 100% still trying to remember to write “2026” on forms. Between sniffly noses, surprise cold fronts, and the flu, Frisco is really showing off its personality this week.
But don’t worry, I’ve got your midweek pic me up. A mix of big local news (including some nerve-wracking moments in Frisco ISD), state headlines, and the best weekend events to get you out of the house and into something fun. There’s something here for everyone.
Let’s get into it.

Texas Edition
🚨 Frisco ISD Placed on “Secure Status” After Threatening Emails
All Frisco ISD campuses were briefly placed on a modified “secure status” Monday morning after several schools received threatening emails.
Frisco Police quickly investigated and determined the threats were not credible, but every campus locked exterior doors and conducted perimeter checks as a precaution. Students continued with normal classroom activities, though no one was allowed in or out of buildings until officials lifted the alert later that afternoon.
Police say they’re still investigating the source of the emails. The district reminded parents to rely only on official updates, not social media rumors, and thanked families for their patience.
As one Frisco student put it, “We’re supposed to come to school to learn, not worry about threats.” Couldn’t have said it better.
🧠 Texas Police Spent Millions on Shadowy Phone-Tracking Software
An investigative report revealed that Texas law enforcement agencies have quietly spent over $8 million on a controversial AI powered surveillance tool called Tangles, used to track smartphones through purchased commercial data without a warrant.
While officials claim the technology helps fight smuggling and crime, civil liberties experts warn it’s a major privacy risk that lets police “sidestep judicial oversight.” Even some Texas sheriffs using the software admit they rarely deploy it for fear of crossing constitutional lines.
Critics argue it’s either a huge waste of taxpayer money or a major overreach that’s being hidden from public scrutiny. Either way, the Lone Star State’s digital shadow is looking mighty long these days.

🍎 Texas Investigates Grocery Stores for Spraying Pesticides on Produce
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has launched an investigation into major grocery chains accused of spraying produce, including organic fruits and vegetables, with an antimicrobial pesticide called Produce Maxx without disclosing it to shoppers.
The spray, which contains high concentrations of hypochlorous acid (a chlorine based compound), is used to extend shelf life and kill bacteria. The problem? Stores allegedly don’t post any signage warning consumers, and organic produce sprayed with chlorine is supposed to be rinsed with drinking water to maintain USDA certification.
Paxton says Texans “deserve to know if pesticides are being sprayed on their food” and that his office will ensure grocers are transparent. In the meantime, you might want to rinse that spinach twice, just to be safe.
🩺 Texas Eases Path for Foreign-Trained Doctors Amid Shortage
Texas has officially joined 17 other states making it easier for foreign trained physicians to practice without repeating years of U.S. residency.
Under the new DOCTOR Act, qualified international physicians can now apply for provisional licenses if they’ve completed residency abroad, passed U.S. licensing exams, and have a Texas job offer. They’ll work under supervision for four years before receiving full licenses.
The goal? Combat the growing doctor shortage, which could hit 10,000 by 2032. With nearly 25% of Texas doctors already trained overseas.
