Frisco Insider - Bobcat + FISD + More

The Friday Recap for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco. 🎄

We made it, folks, halfway through December and just a week from holiday break! Between last minute shopping, endless wrapping paper, and that one neighbor who’s turned their house into a full blown light show visible from space (looking at you, Preston Road), it’s officially peak Frisco holiday chaos.

This week’s got a little bit of everything, wild bobcats, big education shifts, billionaire-backed restaurants, and some of the most magical holiday events I’ve seen all year. So grab a hot cocoa, maybe lock up the dog, and let’s get into it.

🐾 Bobcat Kills Maltese in Frisco, Family Raises Concerns

A Frisco family is warning neighbors after their Maltese, Luna, was killed by a bobcat near Shadow Brook Lane. Longtime resident Melissa Clark said she’s seen up to three bobcats in her area and now fears for her grandkids and pets.

Clark said the attack happened early on Nov. 29, when Luna was let out in the backyard and never came back. Despite immediate help and emergency care, Luna later passed away from trachea injuries.

Frisco Police said they don’t have an official report on this case but confirmed they’re working on another pet-related one nearby. Texas Parks and Wildlife reminds residents:

  • Never feed or approach wild animals

  • Make loud noises to scare them away

  • Keep pet food and trash sealed

  • Always supervise small pets outdoors

Officials say bobcats are common across Texas and usually avoid people, but neighborhoods near greenbelts and creeks, like much of Frisco, can see occasional encounters.

🎓 Frisco ISD Faces Slowing Growth, Possible School Closures

Once the fastest growing district in Texas, Frisco ISD is now grappling with a new reality, fewer students, tighter budgets, and talk of school closures.

District leaders say enrollment peaked in 2023 at 67,000 students, but it’s since dropped by 3,000. That decline has left a multi-million-dollar budget deficit and raised emotional debates, like the one over closing Staley Middle School.

Deputy Superintendent Todd Fouche, whose own family has deep ties to Staley, said, “No one gets into this business to talk about closing schools.”

Experts say a mix of factors is at play:

  • Families having fewer children

  • Fewer homes turning over to younger families

  • New charter and voucher programs offering alternatives

To adapt, FISD launched Access Frisco, letting out-of-district students enroll, and the new Frisco Flex virtual learning program. So far, 246 new students have joined through Access Frisco, a hopeful start to help keep classrooms full.

🥩 Texas Billionaires Bringing Two Dallas Hotspots to Frisco’s Hall Park

Big dining news, Tango Room and Commissary, two high end Dallas favorites, are headed north to Frisco’s Hall Park in 2026, thanks to a partnership between billionaires Craig Hall and Tim Headington.

What to expect:

  • Tango Room – A sleek, modern steakhouse serving cowboy rib-eye, lobster corndogs, and cacio e pepe with optional caviar (because, Frisco).

  • Commissary – A casual bakery and café with espresso, pastries, quick lunches, and grab and- o gifts.

Headington said the expansion is about “joining the right ecosystem at the right time”, and clearly, that ecosystem is called Frisco.
