Frisco Insider - Bobcat Attack + Cheney + More

The Friday Recap for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco. Happy Friday!

We made it. The Cowboys draft energy is at an all time high, and somewhere in town someone is already planning their grape stomping strategy. This weekend? It’s stacked. Draft parties, wine festivals, dog-friendly tailgates, a 5K, and even a sip and shop Sunday. Hydrate now.

Let’s get into it.

☕ Mayor Jeff Cheney Reflects on 18 Years at “Coffee with the Mayor”

With Mayor Jeff Cheney officially term limited, he’s been making the rounds, including a recent “Coffee with the Mayor” at the Frisco Public Library where he reflected on nearly two decades of leadership.

A few highlights:

  • He once bought a yoga studio on a whim (literally sweaty in the parking lot).

  • Helped land major projects like PGA Frisco and Universal Kids Resort.

  • Oversaw growth from 100,000 residents to nearly 245,000.

  • Frisco will serve as a FIFA World Cup base camp for Sweden.

He also addressed recent tension over Frisco’s growing Indian community, saying it’s been “hard to swallow” hearing criticism at council meetings. He stood by the city’s cultural celebrations, including Holi, and emphasized how diversity has strengthened the community.

On the flip side, he admitted his biggest regret: Frisco’s failed performing arts center proposal. Voters rejected a $340M project last year that would’ve brought Broadway level productions to town.

Cheney says he doesn’t plan to run again, but don’t expect him to disappear. Chamber of Commerce involvement and continued civic engagement are likely next.

End of an era.

Your Gutters Will Thank You

Frisco gets over 40 inches of rain a year. Every drop that can't drain sits against your fascia, seeps under your shingles, and works its way toward your foundation.

Foundation repair in Texas runs $5,000–$15,000. A gutter cleaning costs a fraction of that, and it's the one service that makes the repair unnecessary in the first place.

We're a local Frisco company. We keep our calendar intentionally small so every job gets done right, not just done fast. Dozens of your neighbors have already scheduled, and most of them said the same thing afterward: they wished they hadn't waited.

No hidden fees. No pressure. Just clean gutters and the confidence that your home is ready for whatever comes next.

Certified, local, and ready to get up there so you don't have to. Takes about 4 seconds to get started.

🐾 Bobcat Attacks Small Dog in Backyard

A quiet Easter Sunday took a terrifying turn for one Frisco family near Rock Creek Parkway.

A 6 pound Yorkshire Terrier named Ariel was attacked by a bobcat in her own backyard.

  • Surveillance footage shows the bobcat over the dog.

  • Ariel suffered multiple deep wounds requiring stitches.

  • Family members scared the bobcat off.

Thankfully, Ariel survived, but the family says they’ve spotted what they believe is the same bobcat again since the attack.

Reminder: even in suburban Frisco, wildlife is still….wildlife. Keep small pets supervised, especially near greenbelt areas.

🏗 98-Acre Warehouse Development Approved Off SH 121

Frisco City Council approved a new 98 acre warehouse and office development in south Frisco.

Here’s what’s coming:

  • 11 buildings

  • Over 1 million square feet of office + industrial space

  • Potential tenants in defense and pharmaceutical industries

The project required a specific use permit after community concerns, mostly about traffic.

City officials say:

  • The location minimizes truck traffic through major intersections.

  • A traffic impact analysis wasn’t required (similar to Plano projects).

Council members were split earlier this year, but after additional HOA meetings (with low turnout), the project moved forward.

Translation: More development, more business growth, and likely more construction cones.

🤝 Jerry Jones + Bill Clinton Drop-In Before NFL Draft

Former President Bill Clinton casually walked into Jerry Jones’ pre-draft press conference this week at The Star.

Yes, really.

The two Arkansas rooted friends:

  • Shared Razorback football stories.

  • Talked about playing guard at 185 pounds (a different era).

  • Joked about today’s 300-pound linemen.

Jerry even stumbled slightly trying to greet Clinton, which caused a brief collective gasp in the room. Draft prep continued.

Just another totally normal Wednesday at The Star.
