The Wednesday Loop for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco!

Happy Wednesday, neighbors! We’re inching closer to October, which means pumpkin patches are popping up, Spirit Halloween stores are taking over every abandoned strip mall, and the morning air almost (almost) convinces you it’s jacket season. But don’t get fooled, Texas weather still has plenty of tricks up its sleeve. 🍂

As you sip that midweek coffee and dream about Friday, I’ve got your local news fix, event lineup, and a weather report that’ll help you decide whether it’s boots or flip flops this weekend. Let’s dig in.

Texas News Roundup 📰

UT Austin Ranked No. 1 Public University in Texas 🎓

The Longhorns are leading not just on the football field but in the classroom, too. UT Austin has officially been ranked the No. 1 public university in Texas and No. 7 nationally among public schools by U.S. News & World Report.

  • UT placed No. 30 overall when private schools are added to the mix.

  • 24 undergrad programs are in the national top 10, with 6 cracking the top five.

  • UT also set records for graduation and retention rates last year.

Translation: If you’ve got a kid applying soon, good luck convincing them to go anywhere else. UT also boasts the No. 4 study abroad program in the nation.

Looking for a roofer who isn’t going to vanish or leave you guessing whether those “mysterious roof noises” are squirrels or just Texas wind showing off? Let me introduce you to C2 Roofing, right here in Frisco, owned and run by folks who treat your home like their own (seriously, they might care more about your shingles than you do).

I met the C2 team and before I knew it, they were on my own roof pointing out things I’d never noticed, apparently, hail can be sneakier than the average in law. These are the folks who wear shoe covers in your house and never, ever up sell you on a whole new roof for a minor fix. They’ll even wave at your dog (or pretend your cat likes visitors).

If you want the peace of mind that comes from knowing your home is leak proof, squirrel free, and storm ready, just click here or call below. C2 Roofing’s offering exclusive, zero pressure inspections for our Frisco Insider readers, absolutely free. Seriously, let’s make sure the only thing dropping on your head this fall is inspiration (and maybe a little pumpkin spice).

Gov. Abbott Signs Sweeping “Bathroom Bill” 🚻

Texas now has one of the strictest restroom laws in the country, after Gov. Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 8 into law.

  • The bill requires people in government buildings and schools to use restrooms based on sex assigned at birth.

  • Fines are steep: $25,000 for violations, $125,000 for repeat offenses.

  • Enforcement remains fuzzy, leaving agencies to figure it out on the fly.

Supporters call the law “common sense,” while critics say it fuels harassment and stigma for transgender Texans. With lawsuits likely on the horizon, this one’s far from over, expect heated debates in courtrooms and classrooms alike before December 4, when the law officially takes effect.

DoorDash Driver Foils Hostage Situation 🚨

Here’s a headline you don’t see every day: a DoorDash delivery turned into a police rescue mission in Sweetwater.

  • A driver delivering suspicious items (think: zip ties, bleach, and even a hatchet) tipped off police.

  • Inside the motel room, officers found a suspect armed and holding a hostage.

  • The hostage was rescued safely….then promptly arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Talk about a plot twist. The quick thinking driver likely saved lives, reminding us that sometimes your delivery person is more than just the hero who brings Chick-fil-A to your door.

Flood Recovery Costs in Travis County Pass $21M 🌊

Travis County is still counting the price tag of recent floods. Officials report recovery efforts have already surpassed $21 million.

Major Statewide Propositions on November Ballot 🗳️

Mark your calendars: Nov. 4 is Election Day. Texans will decide on 17 constitutional amendments, including billions in property tax cuts.

  • Early voting runs Oct. 20–31.

  • Voter registration deadline is Oct. 6.

  • Mail-in ballot applications are due by Oct. 24.

Beyond the big statewide questions, local elections will also pop up, from school boards in Houston to bond issues in Richardson ISD. Translation: Don’t just skip the ballot after the first page.
