The Friday Recap for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco.

Happy Friday, You’ve survived the storms, school chaos, and probably last-minute Amazon orders. Let’s close the week with everything you need, what just happened, what’s happening this weekend, and how not to get caught in surprise May rain.

Viral Video Sparks Outrage at Love Field

Frisco-based personal chef Michael Singleton was Tased and detained by Dallas police last Friday at Love Field while trying to fly out to see his sick mom. The viral video shows him pleading for help as plainclothes officers wrestled and shocked him despite no drugs or weapons being found.

Police say there were outstanding warrants and resistance. Singleton and his legal team say it was a civil rights violation and excessive force. The incident is under national scrutiny now, with calls for accountability.

Center for the Arts: Mayor Tries to Clear Confusion Before Vote

Frisco voters decide TOMORROW whether to greenlight the $340M Center for the Arts. Critics are worried it’ll raise property taxes, but Mayor Cheney says that’s false: the project pulls from existing sales tax funds (EDC & CDC), not your tax bill.

Quick Facts:

  • $100M from Prosper ISD

  • $100M from private fundraising

  • $160M from Frisco sales-tax-funded sources

Mayor Cheney says the alternative (a smaller community theater) would cost more and hit property taxes. Plus, the Center would bring Broadway shows, boost the economy, and be built to last 100 years. The vote is May 3.

Police Dept Gets $20M Garage

Planning and Zoning just approved a major expansion for Frisco PD: a communications tower, two auxiliary buildings, and a weather-protected parking garage. Why? To keep cruisers safe from hail (and boost capacity).

Rivian's Rolling In

Electric vehicle brand Rivian is building a $3.2M service + sales center on FM 423. Expect display vehicles, repairs, EV charging, and test drives in the near future. Construction starts in August, opens this fall.
