The Friday Recap for Frisco

Howdy, Frisco.
Happy 4th of July 🎇
Whether you’re hosting a backyard BBQ, loading the cooler with suspiciously fancy seltzers, or explaining to your toddler (again) why fireworks don’t happen during nap time, this one's for you.
Today’s newsletter has everything you need to know for celebrating safely, loudly, and Frisco style. Plus, we've got some solid wins for homeowners, a shiny new fire station, and the scoop on who's now helping run the city.

Frisco Raises Homestead Exemption to the State Max
Big news for homeowners: Frisco City Council just voted to increase the homestead property tax exemption from 15% to 20%, which is the most allowed by Texas law.
That means about 120 dollars in savings for the average homeowner
Applies to primary residences only
Exemption reduces your home’s taxable value, not its market value
Mayor Cheney and city officials say they’ve wanted this for years, and with rising home values and a 14% bump in total taxable property value this year, the timing was right.
Frisco joins Plano in giving max relief, and more school tax relief may come in November when Texans vote on two new amendments.

Frisco Opens Fire Station No. 10
We’re growing, and so is our fire department. Frisco celebrated the grand opening of Fire Station No. 10 on Fields Parkway with a classic hose uncoupling (we don’t do boring ribbon cuttings here).
Cost: $16 million (paid by 2019 bond voters)
12 firefighters stationed on-site
Includes indoor/outdoor workout areas and individual dorms
Located near the Fields development, one of the fastest-growing areas in the city
Frisco Fire Chief Lee Glover said, “Hard to believe we’ve gone from one to ten stations in 30 years.”.
New City Council Members Sworn In
Election’s done. The real work begins.
Burt Thakur (Place 2): First Indian-American on Frisco Council. Advocates for a VA clinic, first responders, and a community center for children with disabilities.
Jared Elad (Place 4): Wants to lead with “courage and humility” and protect what makes Frisco special.
